The original Drew
Does the original Drew know how (in)famous he is? I used the term in a thread on the iBOB mailing list yesterday and wound up explaining it to one of the other list subscribers. In researching the origins, it occurred to me that the original Drew might not know. Maybe we should spread the term around on a bunch of single-speed lists/forums and see if he pops up.

the old saw says "there's no such thing as bad publicity"...another one says "let sleeping dogs lie".
I'd suggest doing nothing to promote him, especially given that in these times most people make no distinction between "famous" and "notorious".
No reason to help make him either.

iirc the "original Drew" was the previous owner of a bike that was purchased by a member here, so Drew isn't someone anybody can contact
I've heard the term on here a bunch and didn't realize it was literally referring to someone named Drew for quite a while. I thought it was a technical term.
I think "shaved" is a term used for the same thing.. though these days there are plenty of off the shelf fixie frames so people don't need to resort to drewing to get the look they want

Well, I sure as heck don't know the answer to your question. In defense of "the original drew", however, I would point out that his name was found on a bike frame that had been mutilated or, as we say, 'drewed.' So while I think we can safely assume he himself put his name on his bike, we certainly don't know if he's the guy that mutilated the frame. So the correct term might indeed be skipped or benned or, well, just about anything.

if you look really hard I am sure you can find the thread. I think it is at least 5 years old.

Our Drew actually worked at the Bicycle Post in Greenville. He rode a chrome Bianchi Pista, fell in love with a Russian girl, and bought her a Santana Tandem. Then he got a scholarship to an art school and moved away. As far as I know, he never cut anything off of a frame, but that was no reason not to give him a load of baloney every single time we walked into the place. We waited about 3 months to even tell him what Drew meant.
"Drew! What the *^%^*& are you doing?!!"
(blank look) "What?"
"Just stop it, whatever it is!"
(continued confusion). "I do not know what is wrong with you guys."
Laughter. Drew gets patted on the back.
We miss Drew.
