Yes - that's an old pic. I've since cabled it proper-like, with the step down ferrules.

This problem with short top tubes, or more commonly with top tubes that are effectively shortened by relaxed seat tube angles, is the reason that I, at just over 5'9", prefer larger sizes when selecting from both the older and the cheaper bikes that so often have touring angles.

These are set up for the hardest riding that I can dish out here in the foothills, the Clubman (with 71-degree seat tube) feeling if anything a little small in the top tube, and the Kokusai (with 72-degree seat tube and longer top tube) feeling a bit long in the top tube.

The Sachs is actually good in the top tube reach dimension, but I'll need to use a track stem to lower the bars another inch.

I'm dealing with this currently on my 63cm. I have a 130mm stem and I want the VO handlebar with 125mm reach on the ramps to get that extra bit of stretch. I may have to ditch the Brooks for more set-back.

I just finished a fender job on Stan. I owe thanks to Northbend for the slick little machined aluminum reflector. The first time in this bikes 25 year existance to wear fenders.

This is the little brother to the bike above.

They do have nearly identical build "kits", and until last year I was a "one bike" kinda guy. The Rambouillet was that bike for the last decade until I realized I already had essentially everything to rebuild the Miyata that I had purchased new in 1979. I liked the more sporty feel compared to the Ram, but various factors keep it from fitting as well. So I went looking for something "perfect" with that more sporty feel and found the Marinoni frame through CL. It hits all my buttons, and feels noticeably livelier than either of the others. Maybe my research project is finding out for myself if a "planing bike" works with my limited power output.

So I think the Ram will be the designated rain and touring bike. The Miyata seems redundant with the Marinoni but it's not worth much to sell and there's a strong emotional connection having had it for 35 years. Right now it stays at our vacation home. It might end up as my son's bike, or an upright utility bike some day. And if the Marinoni is as good with panniers as the Ram, then I might be back to being a one-bike guy again. Cool part is that my wife, also a serious cyclist, is OK with these as long as there's no more additions.

Thanks for taking the time to explain, Dfrost. I guess if you build up different frames with the same parts, it is a very good way to evaluate the differences. I should try that.

That's one of the most awesome track bikes I've seen Vonruden. It sure looks bigger than 60cm to me though.

Nice ride Gary!

I was a little hesitant to add this. Though not vintage I think it belongs in here. My 2003 Seven Axiom measures 66cm.

Thanks Gary, I am just trying to keep up with you and your wonderful bikes. I was not even looking for a titanium bike when this became available, but the more I looked in to them I knew I needed to try one.
