Please Talk me out of this project potential project OLD Botta.

I was looking for a crank on Ebay and came across this frame with parts that seems very interesting to me. The price doesn't seem that bad considering parts and I really want a chrome luged Italian bike I know it isn't that high end but it seems like with the included parts it may not be OK buy.

Cool just as a frame, especially if you get a nice deal on it. I paid $100 for mine, and felt like I was sliding in on the lower end of pricing, even needing a lot of work. If that's a Columbus SP frame, you'll love it. Mine is the 63cm blue version.

Thanks Spacemanz your not doing much to talk me out of it though but even if almost low end which I know and it is rough condition and all it is great looking chrome lugged likely mostely chromed underneath Italian frame. With almost enough in parts value to cover the cost.

You are considering a Bottecchia Model Special, a nice enough bike that falls above entry level quality, in my opinion. The bike is not high end, but it is wonderfully vintage appearance, coupled with the ride quality which is pretty good, makes that purchase more than worth while. Anyway, the Bottecchia Model Special...

Also, the entire frame and fork set is chrome plated, but only certain parts sport polished chrome (head tube lugs, stays and fork socks). Most of the chrome is unpolished and does not look very good left unfinished, in my opinion.

Thanks for the info doesn't do much for talking me out of the project but gives me some more to think about.

As I really want a Bottecchia of any level, but lack funds right now, I came within a gnat's ass of bidding on that one. Too large for me though, I ride a 56cm and wouldn't have any use for it. I have missed my white '72 Special ever since I traded it off in the 70's, I was really not thinking on that June day.The other Bottys on eBay right now are way high for me no matter the size, darn economy.

Upper entry level, rough condition, in need of lots of parts. I'd be passing unless this was local pick-up and I had the vast majority of the necessary parts in stock. Otherwise you'll be sinking a lot of money and time into this. You definitely won't be recouping the costs down the road.

Just saw that one myself, and no, I won't talk you out of it either.

I think if you can get it anywhere near that price (only 13 hr's left and little interest) I'd go for it. It's alittle rough, but with some TLC it could look pretty good and nearly everything you need is there.

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

Meh. Pass. Unimpressive. Can of worms. Probably has hidden rust. Is that fork bent? I had one, it was kinda heavy.

(Guys, he's asking us to talk him out of buying it.)

It doesn't look like a 61 cm frame to me.

The Campy parts are Valentino shifters and fd. The best thing about them is that they say 'Campagnolo' on them, and the best use for them is to put them on a junk frame in an attempt to drive up the price.

From this I tend to conclude it is not a great frame.

Oh, and if you want an old bike... get an old bike. To qualify as 'old' I think it has to be pre-bike boom.
