This is the '86 Nishiki I picked up last month, one ride with stock components convinced me I loved the frame but wasn't thrilled with the rest of the bike.

Well, $660.00 later:

It rides very nicely. I still need water bottle mounts and to get some bar tape put on but I'm not quite done with adjustments.

It was no big deal to do this. The new 3 x 10 drive train shifts fantastic, no problems with clearance or adjustment. I love the brakes. The only thing I needed a bike shop to do was to "face" the BB mount and install the BB itself.

I'm not sure this was a wise financial move but I enjoyed doing this and learned a lot.

Mike

Oof, that does seem expensive, but it looks like you got a great bike out for your trouble - still cheaper than buying new anyways. I love the paintjob, what kind of tubing is the frame made of?

Aluminum tubing. Nishiki calls this their Altron model.

Think about the cost of buying new, with the quality of components you have, then dialing in a bike....I like it!

pretty bítchin'. if the stays and fork were chrome, it would be a stunner.

I can certainly appreciate the effort, but do you think you started with a frame that was maybe a little bit small?
