I'm hesitant to let you in on all my secrets, since you're in the same area, but they're around... otherguy is correct, there is a certain raw persistence involved, and dry spells sandwiched around the occasional torrent of good stuff. I've had a couple of pretty nice months, sure it'll end soon, but hoping not...

Haha, alright. Well the neighborhood I used to live in is having a massive number of yard sales this weekend, so hopefully I can get lucky.

I did the yardsale thing this weekend. Lots of roadmaster, Huffy and
Murray (no, not the Serotta made ones). A few Bell Biker helmets from
1980 and a pair of crusty old gloves.
Nope, didn't buy a thing. still looking for a yardsale Masi.

How does one identify a serotta-made Murray? I didn't even know such a thing was out there...

ok, lets see if I can recall this correctly.
Serotta built 1) Huffy's for the 7-11 team. the bikes
had Serotta on the chainstays. I think these were 84 bikes(?)
In 1985/86 the national team Raced on Murrays which were
Serotta built. One way to discern them was the Serotta "S"
on the brake bridge. They also had a single S-bend chainstay
(not the usual 2), differing opinions on why this was done.
The 7-11 team used both Serotta built Huffys and Murrays.

I picked up this Mondia from one of my local bikestore's attics, they had a big pile of frames and parts up there
i'm pretty excited for it
although i'm having a hard time finding any information on mondia's

on the top tube it says 'Mondia Professional'.

Cool! That one's newer than most Mondias I've seen & had. I'd guess mid '80s on it. Is it a cross frame?

it's a cross frame,
i have two bike needs to fill,
a fixed gear and i want a nice bike to commute to school on..
i had purchased it with the intent of making it a fixed gear but lately ive been thinking of just restoring it to what its supposed to be a cyclocross bike and taking that steel takara frame i got laying around and making that my fixed..

i have gone through classic rendezvous and sheldons page many a times,
i actually stumbled upon this site through an exhaustive google 'mondia' search..
just no information out there about mondia 'professionals'

the crank is a sugino 75
although i couldnt really say whats stock on this bike,
what i got were nitto handlebars ,vetta tt saddle and a campy seatpost
the tubing is reynolds 531
the paint is for the most part in good condition except for the chain stay which needs a bit more attention than everything else

The transfer station (ie. junk pile) is a good place. Don't pass up a busted bike. Take the good parts and save them. In a couple of weeks you'll have all the parts you need to build up a nice bike. Seriously. Frame here, brakes there, wheels from a third...got the idea. Of course it's not exactly free. The last bike I built for my sister in law cost 5 bucks for a new chain.

Hi Ya'll, I Am Currently Stationed In Iraq, While Here I Came Across This Bike, It Has Shimano Sis Top Swing Front Shifter, Sas Front Shock System, The Stickers Say Concord Performance Bicycles, And A Sticker That Has Kent International Service, And A Few Other Features That Make It A Nice Ride. I Have Research This Bike Extensively Nd Found Nothing. I Am Hoping Someons Can Help Me Out, I Want To Make An Informed Decision On Weather I Try To Get It Back To The States Or Not.

Well here's my addition to the Catch of the Day. Got this 1986 Trek 520 Cirrus a couple of weeks ago off Craig's List here in San Jose, Ca. All it needed was a little tuneup, a good wash and a little polishing. Shimano 600 equipped. Paid $100 for it but let me tell you, it rides like a dream and doesn't make a sound! Now if I could just find me a spare Rigida Wheelset, I'd be really happy! Thanks for looking!

Thanks John! Coming from you that's definitely a compliment! Funny you said about flipping it. I just got through walking the dogs at the park and saw a guy with an older trek similar to mine. Turns out it's an '85 Trek 720. I asked him if he was interested in selling it, and he said he would be in a couple of weeks because he's moving. The bike's in sweet shape! Wonder what he'll want for it. Anyways, my wife and I will be in your neck of the woods tomorrow riding our Raleigh Coupe tandem in the MS Bike tour. Thanks Again.

I picked up a 14spd 92 TREK 1500 at Salvation Army several months ago. It was in very clean shape and Shimano 600 equiped like yours. Like you experienced, it is whisper quiet - makes my Miyata sound like German armor by comparison. I don't like how it rides though, the aluminum frame feels funny compared to my beloved steel bikes. I rode it all around Solvang one weekend, and never got used to it - go figure. Maybe I'm a Luddite....

I was going to sell it off, but the wife glommed onto it, and she can really scamper about on the thing. It is a very fast bike for her because it is so light. Now the '82 Fuji Team is back on the trainer.

BTW, by the looks of it, you and me ride the same size bike.

Have fun on your ride this weekend - I didn't know one was going on around here. I was thinking of taking a spin on Sunday, depending on familial obligations. Gotta get ready for the Lodi Sunrise Century on the 21st!

I appreciate your service, and I sure hope you stay safe over there. Most of the folks on this particular forum favor the "skinny tire" bikes. While it is certainly possible that someone reading this forum may be able to give you good information, I think you'll improve your chances if you post thie pictures and your question on the Mountain Biking forum.

My latest catch. the above bike, but in brown metallic paint wih a five speed. I bought it for five bucks Canadian, in almost mint condition. I put new rubber on it and am now riding it almost as much as my single speed. Fun grandpa bike.

Does anyone recognize the name "Seraph"? My wife and I were at a church garage sale and all the bikes were $15, except this one that looked a little funny was only $10. It is a stepthough CrMo frame, 10 speed SunTour, McDolo(?) aluminum handle bars that have been inverted, 27 X 1 aluminum rims (Araya, I think), and has no fenders. The gearing is rather spectacular, I think the cranks are 40/53 and the rear is about 14/38! The only markings on the bike are Seraph, Mizutani, Ringyo, and Japan. The bike is likely 15 years old and in good shape. Any input would be appreciated.

Sorry about the above post. This is what I picked up for five bucks. Mine is brown and a five speed without a chain guard and it's almost mint.

Got a Sears "Tote Cycle" at the flea market today for $15.

My latest... Not quite vintage, and not really classic (or is it ??). I think it was a "catch" though... A riding friend wanted to move it out of the house, as his wife is convinced he's not in need of more than 1 bike... I'm glad my wife puts up with all of mine! Anyway, he said take it away today for $250. Looked like a deal, so I grabbed it. I know most of us here are roadies, but does anyone know what model this one is? Components are all Deore XT. I posted in the MTB section as well, but since it's my catch of the day, it's here too... My first MTB in 15 years... Previous one stolen around '89
