Once I figure out how to get my analog output into
my computer, sure.
Uhm is digital ok in this forum? I mean it is
cranky and vintage, shouldn't we all listen to vinyl through
tubes? (I prefer 2A3s in a 1920's circuit design)

I'm all for it...Build me a pair of those; would ya? Still have my nice, vintage turntable (Rega Planar 3 with a Sumiko Blue Point cartridge), but no tube amps to go with. Also have an original AR turntable, and something with a heavy granite ('70s-I think from Onkyo?) base around here somewhere... Vinyl still sounds sweet to me too. Digital is just quick and easy.

Hi!

well, the Bianchi (see page before) hasn't arrived yet, and i tried to cool down my nerves by hunting matching campa-parts on ebay - but I had no luck: Either they were much too expensive or I had to deliver pizza while the auction ended  So I tried my luck finding a bike to rip some parts off :D But as all the people mentioning "Campagnolo" in their clasifieds usually know what they're selling. So I went for the cheapest ad saying: "old roadbike", hoping for the best....

Here's what I found: A french Hugo Bertin "semi-racer/mixte/women's cyclotouriste/whatever": Huret Allvit, Mafac Racer (with nice little rack in front) and not a single part whithout the "made in france" sign. You wonder why I bought it ? Well, I was looking for a vintage pump for the bianchi (ebay) and they somehow finished just 10euro less than I paid for this whole bike, and if I have the Bianchi there will be a bikebox which I have no use for, so I thought of trying to sell it on the bay, as it is in real nice condition and I consider it a mid- to toplevel bike at its time (50s till 60s ********** ) On my fishermans scale (they tend to show more weight, right ? :-p ) it shows about 10.5 kilos with all the equipement attached, the tubing is "tubes legeres" by durifort.

As this bike has got "world championship" sickers all over it, i would politely ask if anybody knows when and which world championship is meant here ? And if unexperienced me is somehow right by dating it late 50s till first middle of the 60s ?

Have a nice day,
Bavarese.

P.S.: If you wonder what is in the black bag: a set of nos tires.

Just got a 1971 Dunelt 3spd on e-bay for $50. Looks like it has hardly been ridden! The chain still has wax on it, brake pads are barely scuffed, looks like original tires. Chrome is perfect, the only problem is the tops of the fenders have oxidized and scratches here and there. No worry, its going to be my around town bike so I don't want it to look too good or it'll get stolen.

Yet another porch picture, with my carefully manicured lawn in the background for Luker to envy. In the foreground, cluttering the picture frame, we have a nice little (55cm) Centurion Lemans w/Exage. Lugged and double butted, Tange #2. A decent mid level bike. Bought in a pile with several mountain bikes.

I don't ever recall a stretch like this, where I seem to be find 1-2 decent old Japanese road bikes a week. They're not stupendous, but I can resell them. It's getting insane, and this isn't even the prime time for finding bikes yet.

You have having one heck of a streak of good luck. Perhaps it's the season for cleaning out the garage of all the toys that weren't used all summer (or the last 10 summers for that matter). Next time you find a 58cm let me know. ;)

ah, yes. Your lawn is still green, I see. Mine is flashing, very slowly, brown then white, brown, then white. I suppose you have leaf raking ahead of you as well?

and put that stem down before you ride it.

The color of that frame is gonna kill Pogue's grass.

In an attempt to broaden my artistic pallate, here are some photos of my car instead of my porch. Cluttering my composition are two bikes I happened accross today, a Jeunet and a Trek 1100 Aluminummm framed thingie. The Jeunet is pretty cool; although it appears to be a base level bike (Solida cottered cranks, steel rims, Standard French Mafac/Simplex set up) it has a Stronglight Headset and Simplex rear dropouts. Not to mention the half chromed dropouts, which Francophile that I am, I adore. Too bad the darn thing is 50cm, as it appears to have been ridden little and I like it. The chrome dropouts have minor rust spotting, the kind of stuff which five minutes of rubbing with brase wool followed by paste wax will eliminate.

As usual lately when I find interesting French stuff, I find another bike my size, hence the 60cm Trek 1100. Darn it, I haven't had an aluminum bike my size since a terrible Raleigh (US built) I tore to shreds; the ride on that one was like riding a 2x4 and I swore off Aluminum once I got the PF10 fixed back up, and found the PX10E I made into a permanent type fixie. May have to try this one. See how it rides, etc, etc.

Also got some good 27" tires, a Five speed shimano freewheel, and a cool little basket to stick on the front of the Vello Kombi Spesial. This is really a stretch of a few weeks....

I hope you have enjoyed these photos of my car. It's kept at least as well as my yard; I did notice the grass near the crenturion is now brown.

cuda2k 11-11-05 03:22 PM

Pogue - clean looking trek you have there. Yet another hung up in the garage and forgotten for a decade? Alum or not, probably a decent rider when one doesn't want to scratch/dent/have stolen anything of real value. Seen several treks of simular vintage around campus lately. UTD isn't a big 'bike' school as small as it is, but oddly enough been seeing more and more older road bikes instead of the Xmart MTB's lately. :)

Bavarese: that bertin bicycles color is the best, you should turn that into a cruiser!

By the way, the highest bid backed out so I got it for my bid.

Poguemahone 11-11-05 07:51 PM

cuda-- the Trek looks pretty much unridden. Or so little to not matter. I put in a new tube on one tire, filled 'em up, and rode it around. Not bad-- may tool about on it a bit once I fix it up and decide what to do with it. Was probably stored in a shop, judging by the sawdust on the BB. The Jeunet has been sitting inside for a long time as well-- no cracking on the mafac half hoods, the decals nearly perfect. Not a bad haul, for about the price of a new Wald basket, one of which I also got.

I made the thrift store rounds today and, while it isn't anything special, I'm happy with the early-mid 80's Fuji Monterey that I found. It is in pretty decent shape with all the original parts. It is a perfect size for my youngest son. I was also able to find an Araya rim in very nice shape for another Fuji that I'm building up.

I work at a university and see bikes all the time that have been abandoned in the bike racks. The vast majority of them are cheapy Magnas etc. but I had my eye on a mid 80's Raleigh mountain bike. The thing has been in the bike rack since mid summer. It was my size, in really nice shape, and all original. The property surplus office takes abandoned bikes and sells them and I was going to call them and see if I could have them cut the lock and I would just purchase it on the spot. Well, I waited too long because last week I noticed the bike was gone and the cut cable lock was on the ground. I checked with the property surplus folks to see if they had removed the bike but they didn't so apparently someone else had their eye on it also and just stole it.

Thanks for the item number! You got a great bike at a nice price. VERY well done.

I'm going through a '60 Rudge Sports project. It looks a little tatty now, but I want to get it looking like your Dunelt. I took it out ahead of schedule today, before polishing the paint and chrome, rebuilding the headset or replacing the bad shifter. I just had to ride it...
these things tend to get under your skin.

I have had a 2000 since they first came out - I raced it for about 3 years - it is really a pretty nice riding bike - the difference between the 2000 and the 1100 is parts and 7075 (1500,2000) versus 6061 (1100, 1200). The bicycle was designed by Tim Isaacs (Match Bikes fame later), and was considered revolutionary for the age. It is all built with oversize tubing, but the tubing was carefully scaled throughout so that you don't notice the larger diameter. I still ride mine as a winter bike. The early ones come with an aluminum steerer, and if yours is one of those, plan on changing out the fork, as a crash can damage the steerer without your knowing it (I have found and replaced three with fractures in the steerer tube). The later ones had steel steerers - all of the above doesn't apply.

and - nice car!

No bikes this week, but I did score a full set of front and rear Deluxe Madden panniers, little used, for $10--it will go nicely with the Fuji America touring bike (w/ Blackburn racks) I picked up a week ago for less than $20! Set for loaded touring for under $30 total! November has been good to me so far! :D

Little Darwin 11-14-05 11:44 AM

This week I found a Peugeot Monaco (made in Canada, my guess is mid-80's) which I snagged for the alloy 27" wheels and a few other assorted parts. Cost $20.

Not enough bike to brag about, but it ended up being a good deal for a couple of parts I can use.

Anyone want a white women's Peugeot frame in pretty decent shape (except for the cable guides along the top tube for the rear brake have been crushed). It will only cost you shipping or pick it up. I will hold onto it for a week or so, just in case someone would like it. After that, it is history.
