I found a Raleigh Serengeti in the trash today. It is an older mountain bike (1990s?) with Infinity Tange tubing, does anyone know anything about this bike? It seems quite nice and not too heavy, it didn't have any wheels on it, I guess I will slap some on and throw it up on Craig's List, I'd just like to know if anyone knows anything about this model, thanks.

Picked up a early-mid 80s ??? Univega Mixte Viva Sport 12 speed bike that appears to be all original except for a huge sprung Serfas seat that was put on it--in excellent running condition with little that needs to be done except lube & oil. Cost $7.99! :)

Probably i should wait a few years and exchange for an japanese highlight

I actually sold my Vent Noir frame recently, as it was too tall for me. I did keep all the DA bits though, and they now reside on my not yet completed Bartlett Pear. When I get that one finished, I'll post a few pics.

A 1987 Centurion Cavaletto, in almost new condition. Paid $5 for the carcass, sans wheels, RD, and chain, and built it up with parts laying about the garage.

It is a pretty bike, and in exceptional shape. But, it is relatively low end, and seemingly built for someone with a freakish glandular/thyroid disorder....... :D Off to CL to help pay the Xmas bills/

Paid $95.00 for the pair. 86 Trek 1500, 90 Bianchi Brava. Bought them from a retired triathlete.

My catch of last week (just came in the mail today): One late '70s Sturmey-Archer all-chrome headlamp, NOS, NIB. Got it for $30. Mounted it on my '73 Raleigh Sports.

Now all I need are those darn wire clips for the fork...

The owner of the LBS came and made a surprise visit at my doorstep tonight, with a few freebie "castoffs" from the shop:

A complete, 1980s ladies' Schwinn Varsity in dark blue, near perfect.

An 1980s Peugeot frame with Vitus 888 tubing - not bad, can be built up.

The jewel of the lot though, is a brown, early '70s, or possibly mid '60s, Schwinn Paramount, in 23" frame size. Half-chromed fork, no chroming on the lugs. In pretty poor shape, but all there.

Yes, you read right: A free Paramount delivered to my doorstep!

Pics tomorrow!

You have a bike shop owner making house calls? and I thought I was fortunate to be able to root through the junk bin at the LBS. And if he dropped a Paramount on ya, you are in the running for deal of the year! Post us a picture!

cuda2k 01-04-06 10:10 PM

*jaw on floor* Yeah - what Luker said!!

mswantak 01-04-06 10:10 PM

Really -- what the h*ll!? You must have incriminating photos of the guy or something. Free Paramounts...

Shame on you.

It wasn't exactly free. He had to take a Varsity to get it. :)

Hehehehe! ;)

Helps to be good buddies with everyone at the LBS!

Here's a photo - will post more pix (including photos of the Varsity and Peugeot) later today. Haven't cleaned it up.

Gee -- that thing looks like it's gonna need a decal set... ;)

BobHufford 01-05-06 01:17 PM

Lucky! That's a '58 - '63 era Paramount!

Very Nice catch, Kurt!!

el twe 01-05-06 06:36 PM

You better give her a full restoration! (And us a full thread.)

USAZorro 01-05-06 08:13 PM

Yeah Kurt, That's a right fine, middle-sized project ya got there. I don't think I'd put 'er up for rent afterwards though. ;)

'58-'63, eh? Older then I thought! Anyone have a serial chart for these Paramounts?

Yes, it appears that a full thread is in order, and it shall come.

In the meantime, here are the other two - a 1981 Varsity in superbe condition, and a 23" Peugeot frame with Super Vitus 980 tubing. The latter is light as hell, even with the BB installed.

Take care,

-Kurt

Not in your life will you see this thing rented out!

She sure looks like one of those drain-your-pocket restos though - everything is either rusted, stuck, pitted, bent, dinged or broken.

I hadn't mentioned this before, but the seat tube has two big dents in it which will require that the seattube be torched out and replaced.

Already time to chalk up the cost of a paint job and the work of a fine framebuilder on this thing...

Take care,

-Kurt

Assenmacher? Peter Weigle? John Thompson? Joe Stark? Mike Barry? e-Richie? (That's all the names I know of east of the Mighty Mississippi).

We're a long way from there, my friend...

P.S.: The Paramount is an early '61, serial #F54.
