Other guy, I do believe your new catch is a Peugeot PFN10E, circa 1979/80. Here is mine, the only bike I have ever bought new, in 1979. It's still on the road, still riding well, but it is pretty frankenbiked, with about three original components on it (the frame, the bottom bracket, the rear derailleur). Love this bike, always have, that is why it is still here. The fork is a 531 replacement.

I must say I'm a bit jealous. It's a nice bike, and I'd love another one to stock. But my original has so many fond memories, such a capable bike.

Also like the Big Daddy Roth, as well as Lotek's Vaughan Bode Cheech Wizard. Perhaps I should dig up Gilbert Shelton's Wonder Warthog to round out the trio, but I should probably use one of my own drawings instead.

No problem; swap for...? (I'd rather have your little Moto..) This one's just a little small for me at 52.5cm ctc. I could ride it, but these days not being bent over in the racer position is a plus.

looks like there may be a good bike under there. what do the decals on the top tube say? Someone made a road bike out of it - bag the wheels and the brakes and go back to 26"ers. It'll still do hills, I'll bet. BTW, looks like all you have to do is wait...the black paint is coming off on its own!

If you aren't following French parts on EBay, you'd be amazed to see what those derailleurs would bring, if the rust were cleaned off of them!

Ah, the Hog. My fave hog story: Little kid wants to win motorcycle race, but only has an American made moped. All the racers have Japanese Fastass Sumbichis. The hog uses the pedals on the moped, passing the Fastass Sumbichis so fast all the riders think their bikes have stopped, so they get off to see what was wrong (predictably crashing). Little boy takes prize money and buys himself a Fastass Sumbichi.

Alas, otherguy, I shall patiently wait for a PFN in my size, since I don't think I should weld 10cm of seat tube onto the one you were fortunate enough to find.

Yup; gorgeous day here as well. After the coffee soaks in, a 40 miler on the Laing. Been doing a nice loop from my house to the Griffith Observatory & back.

dang, All I could manage was a bit of roller work this am. I had some
"office surgery" on my toe so I've been off the bike for a week. Today was

You know, I always preferred Gilbert Shelton to Crumb... Shelton just seemed to have more fun in him, although Crumb certainly has better chops as an artist. And of course, Frank Stack's "The New Adventures of Jesus" (in particular "Jesus goes to the Movies"), one of the highlights of 20th century culture and arts.

One of the reasons I like Cheech (and all of Bode's work)
is that there is an immense sense of play. I got the feeling
that Bode never took himself (or his comix) too seriously.
I also like some of the early work in Heavy Metal, particularly
Jean "Mobius" Giraud.

Saw some of Giraud's actual pages once. The pencils were just stick figures, and then he would ink in all that detail over the stick figures. Almost drove me to despair, the level of skill. One of the best draftsmen ever in the comic book form. Love his "Blueberry" work, amazing stuff. Agree on Bode, really fun stuff. Too bad he didn't do much.

Ok we are getting WAY off topic but. . .
too bad that Bode saw fit to end it all which
probably accounts for the small amount of work.
His son is carrying on but it just doesn't have the
same feel as Vaughn's stuff.

Heck, lotek, you're a mod, you can always pull the thread. I'll go ballistic, though. Never thought much of Mark's stuff, you're right, Vaughan's is way better. Don't like to talk about cartooninsts ending it themselves, a few too many good ones gone that way. Wally Wood and Jack Cole come to mind first.

Back on topic, the PFN got a long ride today. It has a new (to me) Brooks and a new (to the bike) Suntour cyclone front mech. I'd be the first to admit I am strongly biased towards this bike-- it was my first real bike-- but it's a great ride. Otherguy, have fun.

OK - back on topic....

I found a decent Peugeot mixte at a thrift shop for $14.00. Complete and original, with flat bars and a broken Simplex front derailluer. I'll give it the old "lube and tune", flip it on CL and put the cash into the Mondia Restoration Fund.

Check e-bay before you put it up for too little. There's a 1970 that's up to $76.00 the last I checked. My riding buddy was given it, and swapped out two skewers that he think he can get $10-$15 each for to boot. He was telling me he didn't think he'd get much more than $25.00 for it. I was even thinking of getting it for my wife, but not now...
