I thought I'd be using these as spare roadbike rims, but it looks like I'm ultimately going to squeeze them here on my '66 (?) AMF-Hercules. Looks like this thing will finally get built up. Already has parts from over a dozen different Raleighs on it. If I can get a better handlebar and seat stem, she'll make for a very nice rider, provided that Ideale Wolber saddle isn't too tough.

Take care,

Today I bought the Stumpjumper I posted about earlier in this thread. I couldn't get the guy to go any lower than $130, but I couldn't help but buy it. :D The owner of my LBS already wants to trade with me, so he's going to find me an older road bike. :) Here it is:

Edit: Yes, I know the seat is completely absurd. :D

more of a catch of the season. A fellow BikeForums member painted my WorldSport. Drasticly changed the look for the better IMO. The Black is the original. I do not currently plan to replace the decals.

found one of these today....normally would have left it, but I think the hubs look dang cool. I love the dump LOL...also snagged a Specialized cross winds or something.

Well, I think today is the biggest "Catch of the day" if not for the last couple of years. I saw an ad on Craigslist last night but didn't bother to call until this morning. It read:

Girl's Bridgestone 10-speed bike $30 and Boy's 10-speed racer needs work $30.

Well, I knew it had to be a mixte, so I called it. Guy said "yes" it's still available so I went over to see it. Great shape. Good paint, tires, frame, etc. So I bought it knowing I could make a few bucks. Then I looked up at boy's 10-speed racer and well the pictures will tell the story. Put it this way, I couldn't get my money out fast enough. Vitus 979, Brev. Campagnolo, Cinelli, Modolo, Saturne rims on Specialized Hubs, Galli Headset, San Marcos Supercorsa. Serial #E0577112. Bad part it's not my size and needs a set of pedals. Here's the pics:

Mhendricks, I'm in awe. Carbon fiber shifters! and super record drive train. Many of us will never make a catch like that in out life!

mswantak 03-17-06 12:58 AM

:roflmao: mhendricks, that's going to be your epitaph someday. I can see it now:

Here lies Michael Hendricks.

But it's not his size.

oglala_1927 03-17-06 07:20 AM

:D But it doesn't have a chain!!! Great find tho.

lotek 03-17-06 08:46 AM

hmmmm no chain, wrong size, mismatched components. . . I'll give ya
your $30 bucks and an additional $20 for it to take it off your hands. . .

Great score, qualifies for catch of the month if not year!

Trolling for bikes is always a bit weird, occassionally stuff'll just seem to drop from the sky on you. Really nice haul, Mhendricks.

To put an exclamation point on the first point, I've not found a thing bike wise in the last two months. Some black early dura-ace brakes, A nitto technomic stem, a nitto north road bar, some mechs-- huret duopar, Simplex SX5500s, Dura ace FD, a nitto steel rack and some decent fenders, but no decent whole bikes, not a sniff. Today I got up and headed to an auction that has been dry as a bone lately, and all they had was a pile of Huffys and a box full of cross-country skis. So I bought a ticket and rolled out to one of the most non-productive thrift stores I know (at least for bikes; the only other one I've ever found there was the Ross I'm posting in the vintage rides thread).

Stuck to a Huffy was this here Pinarello. Decals rough, paint Italian. Columbus Cromor tubing, full Campy group except for the wheelset (a keeper, Mavic MA40s laced to Specialized hubs). 3ttt bar and stem. I believe it's late eighties and am unsure of the Campy group. The frame is a ridiculously sized 51cm, people need to start buying bikes of a real size, like say, 62cm. I pried it loose from the Huffy and bought it immediately, of course, even given the wrong size. Any id help is of course appreciated, I don't know squat about Pins or that much about Campy, really, since I tend to learn about stuff as I find it. The frame is prolly trade/ebuy bait, I suppose.

I then went back to the auction and bought the box of XC skis for 5$. I don't know the first thing about them, either, but I figured some of them might fit me and if it ever snows again, I might use 'em. Anyone wants some free XC skis in the RVA area or can point me in the direction to learn something about them, drop me a PM...

The size is 22"/56cm. I put on a new chain but I've got problems. The minute I switch from large front to small the chain goes slack by a lot almost dragging on the frame. HMMMMM!!!!!!

Thanks Pogue. Yeah I got lucky. Nice Catch yourself. Any catch with an Italian has to be a good one. As for Mswantak's remark about the size, he's right. Everything I find is never my size. What has ended up happening is all these bikes I found and sold, I ended up spending the money and bought my '83 Trek 720. :D

lotek 03-17-06 11:32 AM

The gruppo looks like late 80's Chorus.
nice find
wish there was something round here other than huffy and murray gas pipe specials.
on a plus it's getting warmer here Yard sale time soon.

Squirt some WD-40  on the RD hinge spring. Sounds like it's gunked up from storage and non-use. Make sure the RD is pivoting freely so the return spring will work properly and take up the chain slack.

Just dropped off; trade with a local dealer... gave him a Suntour VGX for this Wright's Saddle. Nice, narrower than the one I have on my Trek 410. Model W3.N.

Mhendricks 03-17-06 12:56 PM

Thanks Bossman. I'll check that out. By the way, we need to get together for a ride.

How are you gonna ride? You haven't found a bike your size yet! :D

Smart Ass! :p I figured you let me ride your Super Mondia!!!!! On the real, I'll bring my 720 so you can see what a REAL Touring bike looks like. :D

Yeah - that'll be a neat trick cuz my rear view mirror doesn't show too much detail. At least you'll get a chance to see what a real tail light looks like...... :D

hodadmike 03-18-06 12:07 AM

Here's one I pulled off a junk pile at a construction site. It's a Bridgestone Antares L.D.T. (Long Distance Touring) with half-step gearing, and canti's. I heard some tweaker rode it to the job one night, ditched it, and drove away with the electrician's service truck full of tools. It had 20 years of grime all over it, but everything cleaned up real nice. Too big for me, I sold it to a tall friend who wants to get into road riding for $50. I wonder what it would have ebayed for?
