How can you tell they are superbe? it was only mentioned in the title. I didn't bid because I am cheap, and also because I thought they might not be. Is there some tell-tale that tipped you off? I have a set of wheels that are almost identical which say "suntour" on the hubs, but no superbe.

1) I know what they should look like (finish, etc)
2) Sticker on the hub said Superbe

Granted someone could have stuck the sticker on there, but knowing what the hub looked like was the clincher. I will also say that usually the Superbe sticker is in line with the axle and not wrapped around as on these. But this is not the first time I have seen it done this way. I was bidding on these, but forgot to sign in before bidding. Sign-in process dragged and I did not get my snipe in. They would have been perfect for my Japanese flavored Raysport. :(

Thanks, but no. I should have said Superbe flavored Raysport. The real clincher was the combo of the Superbe hubs and Araya rims.

Wow. I'm getting lost here. I have a set of Araya Rim/Superbe Pro/bladed spoke tubulars in the garage. Does anyone want to trade these (um, about '85...) for some wheels with earlier superbe hubs?

Well heres some pics of my latest catches. It was free garbage clean up day recently so they were all free. The first is what seems to be a bone stock 1977 Raliegh Grand Prix. The second is a Schwinn Mixte, has a few nice parts, likely parted out or rebuilt and sold. The last picture is of the other stuff I picked up. 1 mostly complete Next dual suspension, has an nice upgraded front wheel, Joytech hub to black alloy Wienmann rim. The other is a purple Magna, with a few parts that can go on some projects to sell. The other is a green Next BMX bike with some interesting radial wheels. Also 2 like new Trek Big Khauna mtn bike tires. 1 tacoed 27" wheel with a good Shimano hub and freewheel. Also a junky wheel with a decent Komete coaster brake hub.

This is the YARD SALE find I mentioned earlier this week! Not bad for 20 Bucks! I don't think the bike has 5 miles on it, it still has completely unworn Raleigh OEM Tires on it with no weatherchecking. Perfectly rideable tires! I took it out for a short spin today between the rain and man, it is SWEET!

Here's some pix from the ebay auction I just won. A 52cm Caldaro frame. I took a chance on this, not knowing anything of the Caldaro mark, but I was sold on the Columbus tubing, lug work, and especially the fancy dropouts.

Now I have to start hunting up some Campy components!

Haven't been posting much on this thread lately, even though I'm finding stuff, it's just the SOS.

Here's an interesting haul, though. Think it's a sixties Paris Sport, with a weird kickstand-- seem to recall mswankytank having one of these once. The frame is gaspipe (about 8#s) but fairly cool. I bought it cause it's my size and thought it would be fun to play with. Prolly gonna fixie it or singlespeed it or some such abomination, 'cause it's not good enough to restore, and it's rough as is. Make a good beater, and once I get tired of it, I can give it away; it was only 15$ (too much, but I'm a sucker for old French crap) The kickstand slightly dented the stays, and the rear is a bit out of line, but I need some alignment practice anyhoo. Fun!

Here's a real interesting one. Not mine, it belongs to an old friend. It was his grandfather's and has been garaged for quite some while. He wanted a bike to ride around the neighbourhood with his children, and thought this one would be fun. Schwinn Panther III. Although the bike looks incomplete, it's actually in pieces; the "gas" tank, including the electronic horn, is complete. Original seat broken, missing a spoke, a lens cover on one of the lights. Chrome need polish; but as you can see, some bronze wool brought it quickly back to life. It's likely earlier than the 66 liscence plate would suggest; I'll date it tonight. We'll be working on it over the summer and hopefully bring it back. It should be fun, though I can't get as goofy as I can with the Paris Sport.

There's another bike from this period coming, the plate on it is from 1955.

I'll bet you can get $30 for the kickstand on eBay. They seem to have a following......

I guess I could call this my 'best' catch so far.... though I'm not entirely sure how great it is. I called an add for a '27 inch 10-speed bicycle' in the local classified-add paper. He 'couldn't remember' the brand when I called, but said it was ready to ride, and had downtube shifters. I find his place, and the first thing he says is 'can you ride a 27 inch frame?' (I'm 5'9" and could definitely not ride one; I thought he meant 27 inch wheels), I say I'm looking for parts too, and he shows me to an early 80s Huffy sitting in front of a bunch of sad-looking kid's bikes.

Trying to come up with an excuse to leave without feeling like I've totally wasted his time and mine, I tell him there's I need. He asked what I did need and I said a French-thread bottom bracket, thinking he wouldn't even know what I was talking about let alone have anything around interesting. He floored me by saying he had a Peugeot sitting in his other garage, but not in riding shape yet. Within a minute of him saying he'd take $15 for it, it was in my car.

Best I can find (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ighlight=PA65), it's a PA65. I left my digital camera behind, so I can't take pics until Sunday or Monday. It's a mixte frame, all white, with Stronglite cranks and Peugeot-branded (Weineman) center-pull calipers, the front hub is stamped Normandy, with 'P 25 78' below, the latter of which I am taking as the date. Regida 'Chrolux' 27" rim. Simplex shifting (with what I assume is the plastic rear der), with stem mounted shifters, 10 speed.

I'm cursing myself for leaving the camera behind, because I'm not sure about the model. There's nothing on the frame indicating what kind of tubing is used (though it's a bit on the heavy side; not 531), it has a chrome rear fender and nice rack (worth the $15 by itself, imo), and there's a big generator-powered light mounted on the stem; front fender wasn't attached and he said he didn't think it came with one (wrong). Simplex derailers and stem-mounted shifters.

Sorry if this is long and rambling, I'm just excited to actually find a decent deal on a bike....I've paid full value for my other bikes and feel like I've come out ahead on this one. I'll post pics asap.

Okay, we've got a bet. I'll stick it on ebuy for 99 cents and we'll see how high it goes. I'll give anything over thirty to charity... who made these things, anyhoo? I seem to recall them being plestchers....

Scored this at the landfills recycle center this morning, $3! Its a supercycle; you can never have enough good canadian size 28" wheels laying around for parts!

Today I found a ladies raleigh and a mens sears roebuck. Best part is I got them together for $1 look to be in pretty good cond. both are 3 speeds. Now I get to walk a mile to 2 miles to grab 2 bikes and carry 'em home. But in the end it should be well worth it. Also Ill get you all some pics later on today.

I found this bike at a value village in Vancouver - priced at an unbelievable 12.99. 1980's vintage (from the decals, appears to be 1985) Fiori, with Ukai rims, Suzue hubs, Sugino cranks, and Nito handlebars and stem. The components alone are worth at least 5-10 times what I paid for the whole bike. Aie!

Hay I just scored a Fiori Modena as well shamano 600 sis everything but cranks there sake sx EX 4130 triple butted chrome moly Ishiwata.. suntour drop outs. also a Concorde Europa handbuilt ultech chrome moly shamano light action. A windsor made in mexico very clean bike cottered cranks so a 70's I would guess. A set cyclocross forks cromor columbus and a set of cyclops forks. Any of these bikes any good.

A Motobecane Grand Jubilee frameset and a 1951 ladies' Raleigh Sports "C" Tourist.

Both should be somewhat familiar to the C&V regulars here at BF.net: Both are formerly of the Neal Lerner Collection. Traded him some various knicknacks for them.

Now taking donations for any and all Campagnolo parts to finish the Moto ;)

Here are photos of the '51 ladies' Sports "C" Tourist following it's first test ride. Have yet to finish polishing the frame or the rear wheel. Dynohub needs some further cleaning (a-la toothbrush) as well.

From Pete's famous garage sale here in Canberra, a box of old cottered steel cranks including Williams and TA, lots of 49bcd steel rings ($5), a 1957 Raleigh Lenton sports roadster in (as far as I can tell) completely original spec except for cabling ($70), needs 10 hours love but that's 10 hours I'll happily do instead of studying. Also a pair of 32h Fiamme red labels, somewhat used but nothing a bit of scotchbrite and polish won't make look new ($5), a pair of Dura-Ace 7402 (what's the diff between 7400 and 7402?) 165mm cranks, $10, one pair of Cinelli criterium bars, good condition, $10.

A partially restored 1952 malvern star Queen Elizabeth II coronation model bike, very ornate ladies bike with a coaster brake. Lovely. Needs some 28" rims to replace the 26 * 1 3/8" (yes I know, Raleigh Lenton size!) ones which are inexplicably on there. On ebay for $300au, which is a good deal given how much work has already been done.

This is a very cool thread btw. I might grab a liqueur and go through the whole thing.
