Nice rides :) The Sports models were the ones to have a 5" section that opened on the lower half of the chaincase, not the upper as the DL-1s do. Take care, -Kurt |
Thank you for the information, it's very helpful!

By the way, one of the better hints to tell the two cases apart, aside from the spot of the chaincase that comes off, is that the DL-1's case bolts on to the frame, through a threaded braze-on at the front of the chainstay, and a drilled hole behind the axle slot at the rear of the stay. A Sports chaincase will mount with a similar braze-on in front, but will affix to the rear of the chainstay with a small clamp over the tube. -Kurt |
Old Steyr
I found this bike ditched on the side of the road with flat tires. I'm assuming either someone wanted to get rid of it or didn't know how to patch a tube and tossed it? I did a little research but didn't find anything about this specific bike, just a history of the company. I was wondering if anyone could take a look and maybe identify it or estimate when it was made.

I was just curious about the bikes' history and I thought she might be as well! It's got a Sturmey-Archer 3-speed rear hub, Brampton "speedy switch" shifter, and it doesn't look like the rims or front hub are stamped. thanks in advanced, Brendan |
thats a steyr, i forget how its spelled. i have one exaclty like it. they are really cool, and really light for a 60's bike. steyr/puch/daimler. all the same company.

Nothing much
A friend found this Schwinn World Sport in the trash and grabbed it for me a while ago and I finally picked it up today. I also grabbed that bike rack from my apartment dumpster a while back. I'm passing this frame on to a friend of mine who might actually fit it.

heh, a good week for girls 3 speeds? I was riding around a while ago and found one laying up against a park fence with a demolished rear rim.. It was garbage night last night, I figure some vandals got a hold of it and went "joy riding"? Its light blue and its model name is "wayfarer", I dont know the company, something like "emmelle"? Has a sturmey archer hub though, too dark to look over or photograph! But I decided to drag it home cause it has white wall tyres on it surprisingly, I figure I can put them on my "woolco" brentwood singlespeed in order to gussy it up a bit, white walls rule!

Not vintage, but a good catch none-the-less. I mentioned this one a while back when I picked it up, but this is the first ime I've had a chance to take a pic of it after I put it back together.
It is a 53cm 2004 Lemond Reno, WSD. I paid $150 for it, and it needed wheels, tape, and a RD. I have about $230 into it as it sits, and with spring finally unfolding around here I'm hoping to turn a small profit on it very soon..... :D http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/2...ndreno19tp.jpg |
Heres the Emmelle wayfarer, from the mid 80s:

My catch today was a 24" Raleigh DL1 single-speed with enclosed chain case. The B.66 saddle came from my saddle bin, but otherwise the bike is intact. Not a hill climber, but surely a slow and steady cruiser.

Nice score Neal...where did you find it?

For god's sake, man -- put a pump on that thing! It looks naked!

Ok.. ANOTHER curb find, this time likeable for me (single speed coastered!), seeing me riding one old bike ghost riding another beside me has become way too common a site these days. Unfortunetly the pins for the 3 piece crankset arms are both messed up and stripped. No pin in my parts box will fit in the holes (all too big), the ones on my raleigh and eatons glider are too big too. I cant completely change the crank because the crank housing is the small type so a 1 piece ccm crank wont work, the housing is also not threaded, so that type of crankset wouldnt work. So It'll have to go to the "chronic pile" sadly. I will never understand why 3 piece crank sets were invented, they are so problematic. Or at least it would be GrEAT if every bike had the exact same crank housing size. |
Here's my curb find: A Raleigh Grand Prix found residing in a pile of junk on yard cleanup day.

It seems that way especially in Iowa, I'll post pics of the one I found later this week. I just got my trash-find Raleigh tuned/lubed/pumped and am going for a spin. |
