I can't remember the last time I owned a bike that was in as nice as shape as the ones you've been able to find recently (well -- the last Ritchey I had was nice and a recent Schwinn Cimarron frame that just came in too -- oh, I forgot to mention that one -- it was free!), but I think I'm more attracted to the beaters and rusty bikes for some reason. I think I got that disease from my Dad. He could always visualize an antique car project (just had a hard time following through).
Congrats on your great scores!

2 Finds at a family gathering
I was at a family gathering and my uncle wanted me to take a look at a couple of bikes he had in his garage. He was looking to make some extra room in his garage. I've taken one of them home thus far and will probably pic up the other later in the month.
10sp Schwinn World Traveler

I love the green paint job...
Schwinn branded components
Didn't think to look up the serial number
(obviously this one is still at my uncle's house)
Thus far I don't seem to have enough info to determine its vintage.
10sp Schwinn Mesa Runner

Serial Number G0486
Dia Comp Centerpulls
Shimano Components
I can't seem to figure out the year from the SN# as it doesn't seem to match any paterns I've seen. Any Help?
I'd like to be able to find some specs to help me determine what direction I'm going to go with it to set it up for my wife.

I have a 1988 Mesa Runner that is looks very similar to yours, although mine is a 12 spd. Shimano SIS thumbies and derailleurs, Joytech hubs, various Schwinn branded items. Weighs a ton, but has been virtually indestructable. Nice comfortable ride, good to run errands on.

Here are photos...I still feel like I got my money's worth out of it. It's a cute frame, but will likely not be ridden for a while - I'm using parts to fill out a Peugeot fixie.

He 'couldn't remember' the brand when I called, but said it was ready to ride, and had downtube shifters. I find his place, and the first thing he says is 'can you ride a 27 inch frame?' (I'm 5'9" and could definitely not ride one; I thought he meant 27 inch wheels), I say I'm looking for parts too, and he shows me to an early 80s Huffy sitting in front of a bunch of sad-looking kid's bikes.
Trying to come up with an excuse to leave without feeling like I've totally wasted his time and mine, I tell him there's I need. He asked what I did need and I said a French-thread bottom bracket, thinking he wouldn't even know what I was talking about let alone have anything around interesting. He floored me by saying he had a Peugeot sitting in his other garage, but not in riding shape yet. Within a minute of him saying he'd take $15 for it, it was in my car.
Best I can find (https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ighlight=PA65), it's a PA65. I left my digital camera behind, so I can't take pics until Sunday or Monday. It's a mixte frame, all white, with Stronglite cranks and Peugeot-branded (Weineman) center-pull calipers, the front hub is stamped Normandy, with 'P 25 78' below, the latter of which I am taking as the date. Regida 'Chrolux' 27" rim. Simplex shifting (with what I assume is the plastic rear der), with stem mounted shifters, 10 speed.
I'm cursing myself for leaving the camera behind, because I'm not sure about the model. There's nothing on the frame indicating what kind of tubing is used (though it's a bit on the heavy side; not 531), it has a chrome rear fender and nice rack (worth the $15 by itself, imo), and there's a big generator-powered light mounted on the stem; front fender wasn't attached and he said he didn't think it came with one (wrong). Simplex derailers and stem-mounted shifters.
Sorry if this is long and rambling, I'm just excited to actually find a decent deal on a bike....I've paid full value for my other bikes and feel like I've come out ahead on this one. I'll post pics asap.

Got what I think is a 1980 or 1981 Carlton, with shimano 600 group (hubs and DT) gran comp brakes (gold calipers) 27" wienmann concaves, old shield logo cinelli bars, stem is replaced with a specialised and the seatpost is replaced with a sugino that is too small. I cringe and hope that i will be able to get it back into shape without trouble, though some of the pain has flaked as a result. There are no braze ons save for the cable router for the RD on the chainstay. There is a small dent in the top tube right in the middle. It's full 531 (old style decal - "fork blades, stays and butted frame tubes", 531 written horizintally with stars in either side) and it has campy dropouts and fork ends, flat crown. Overall in good shape aside from the dent and cinched seatpost clamp. someone flipped the bike over to work on it and marked up the brooks saddle at the front and back pretty good. Oh well it's still serviceable just not as pretty.

Just picked up a Super Custom (never heard of it before anyone know anything?) triple crank, for my touring bike. It came with Suntour Mountech front and rear derailluers and shimano stem shifters. I can use the front derailluer for my tourer as well. I have to make a decision about the rear as I already have a Suntour XC-T I was planning on useing, can anyone recommend one or the other. Total Price: $20

My girlfriend has one on her Norco Magnum GT touring bike, so far so good but the previous owner only put a few 100kms on it...

I love the mint green frame color, although I have my complaints about the purple. I'll ultimately repaint the headtube dark metallic green and replace the decals with those similar to the Raleigh Clubman.
P.S.: This frame is will replace the Basso frame pictured below.
Take care,
-Kurt

Not a whole bike, but I got my first campy part today. Was fishing around a random box of donated parts at the co-op, looking for a decent rear hub to fixie. The box is full of derailers and freewheels; nothing that interesting. At the bottom, there are a bunch of cables and, surprise, some hubs. Pair of Campy Record 36-hole rear hubs. I took one home for free - good deal I'd say. Now I just have to build the wheel up.

Is it a catch???
This bike is just a bit too small for me... but it rides like a DREAM! My girlfriend thinks I'm an idiot for even thinking about it. Maybe she's right. But she knows even less about bikes than I do. I'm worried that the bike might be worth something and I'll be kicking my ass in a year when I find out. I'm headed back to this bike shop on sunday and I don't know if I should buy this bike on principal. Do you guys think I should buy it? More specifically is it worth the money? I don't even know the year, or the model. I have no idea.. Is it a catch?
thanks

Seems reasonable if the bike is sound, but I'd want to know what that tape on the frame is covering up.

You didn't find it, cause only two good key words were used in the auction: "Raleigh" and "531". Most folks search "Reynolds 531" or "Raleigh 555" but not "Raleigh 531".
Not that I searched as such, for I found it by thumbing through all the darn ads (concert tickets, Raleigh mugs, etc.) under the search word "Raleigh". I don't dare limit the search to Cycling or Sporting Goods - I might miss out on something in the wrong category.

I picked up a couple of bikes last weekend. A Raliegh Marathon (85 according to the component dates), Fuji road bike, and two lugged Schwinn High Plains mountain bikes. I paid the most for the Marathon @ $30, but it is in nice shape and close to my size. I am going to build it into a fixed gear. Today I had a great find. During work (truck driver) we were driving around and I saw a couple of garage sales and a sign for an Estate sale. I went back after work to the garage sales, and all of them were closed down because of the rain. I then went looking for the estate sale. I saw a road bike when I drove by and did a quick U and stopped. I walked over to the bike. It is a full Reynolds 531 frame/forked Raliegh RRA with the white and yellow paint. It has simplex shifters/derailliurs, 3T stem, GB bars, Stronglight cranks, Brooks Professional saddle, and the wheels are Maillard Professional Hubs laced to AVA tubulars. I looked on Sheldons Raliegh site and it is a 1973 because that was the one and only year for it. I will try to post some pics of the RRA later tonight or tomorrow. Oh ya I almost forgot the best part I paid $24 for it!!!!!!

BTW, when looking for the above pics on the Raleigh page of the CR site, I noticed something familiar -- it was the steps of the deck in my back yard. The photos of the "interim model with Raleigh head badge but Carlton transfers" was a bike I used to own. I didn't know those pics were on there (or I had forgotten). I paid $15 for that bike at a local estate auction about five years ago.

Wooohoooo! Found this today at a yard sale. I could not believe it! The lady sold it to me for $10.00 USD.
She said it had been sitting in the garage, and just recently they took it out and it sat in the rain for a couple of days while they organized the yard sale.
It needs a lube job, and new tires. That's it!

Oh. My. God. I just ended up buying 4 bikes on Ebay, all from the same guy. All stored in a dry attic for 5 years, and looking mighty good. His father apparently died, and since these weren't his bikes, he did a poor job of listing them. I think I can make back double what I spent selling just one of them, but wait for that one. Here they are:
This one is for the missus https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
Some sort of Raleigh, pretty much her size, quality components, and it was £11.50 (maybe $15-17?). I'm sure to be able to get more back than that even if it doesn't suit her. I've been building up a bike for her, but that might go by the by now....
Here's a nice Viner. No wheels, but Campag rear derailleur and shifters, suntour at the front, 531, my size. Came out more expensive than I expected, at £87 ($120?), but I have a set of wheels (Campag Hardox Road rims, on Shimano 600 hubs), which I paid £5 for. With those on board, I ought to get £200 for it. Does the guy get on numbskull of the week for thinking this was made by EG Bates?
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
Now it's getting exciting. An EG Bates! It's a Low profile TT bike, 753, Suntour derrailleur is a bit of a downer, but apart from that, it looks gorgeous! At £103 ($150) I should be able to triple my money, maybe more if I'm lucky.
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
Finally, the real price. A Bates track bike! Again, it's a mid 90's bike, but hey, it's still a handbuilt lugged 531 track bike, has the classic look, and a great British name on it. At £225 ($320 or so), I think I could potentially turn a BIG profit on this one. I'm tempted to hold on to one or other of them, but we'll see. I'm going to be picking them up in the next few days, and will be making a royal nuisance of myself as I identify the parts properly, in preparation for selling.

Pro-Miyata
Just picked this up, a late-70s or early 80s Pro-Miyata. Appears to be in good shape; a few paint chips and a bit of corrosion on some bits. The wheels need to be trued up, and the aero brake hoods are shot.
Double-butted Cro-mo frame, Suntour "Superbe" and Shimano 600 components, Araya rims... The Shimano 600 seatpost is even ovalized!
Looks like I'll have fun refurbishing.

1972 CCM Galaxie. Features extremely faded or messsed up red paint that now looks pink!
Ditched the crapppy mountain bike seat that was on as found shown in photo already, and found a matching front rim/tire (though really warn, and untrue!).
also got a 26 X 1 3/4 tire tread (rather warn.. but still has some life in it yet!)
