Never heard of it myself, but say.. that thing is quite nice- yellow, fenders, tool bag!

On the way to work this morning, I scored a 4130 main triangle Schwinn road bike (Traveler or a Sport..cant remember) as well as a really nice black Panasonic, 1020 tubing with gold highlighted lugs and a chrome fork/dropouts for...FREE :) Both are in incredible shape.

They are both 51-52cm frames I believe, which fit me perfectly. I left them at home, pictures and model specifications to come later:)

Well, by the time the night fell today, I actually ended up going back to the pile I got the above mentioned bikes from and took a Fuji home that I left there this morning. Here's the rundown...are they good scores? All are in excellent shape paint wise and require little cleanup. New chains/cables are in order for all, and tires for the first two.

I'm going to fix up the Schwinn and Panasonic to sell on CL I think, and I don't know what to do with the Fuji..the rims, stem, bars, dropouts and pedals seem to be the best of the bunch, but the frame is way to big for me. I may part the Fuji out (to myself) and sell the frame...

**Update** Rather than parting out the Fuji, I am going to give it to a taller friend of mine who has wanted to try out road biking. Good karma points for Kevin :)

Three nice bikes today, but the Holdsworth I got for my son is still in the car, so I didn't photograph it. This Falcon isn't 531, but came with a nice early Shimano 600 group (all pantographed and pretty), some unusual bars, and a wheelset which will be perfect to replace those that the LBS killed from my Gazelle. That means the Gazelle is gonna get a clean and polish and new bar tape, so expect it in the Classic Rides thread soon (not having it really made me miss it!). The Falcon cost £46, which is ok by me!

The other is this lovely Freddie Grubb frame. 531, light as anything, GB spearpoint stem, Campag shifters, Campag hubs with sprint rims, £65. Look at how close the damned ratios are!

These are DEFinitely too big for you, plus the Holland has rarity value over almost anything, even the Grubb. Did you see Norris Lockley's contribution on it? It's almost certainly 50's.

Well, I haven't had too many catches lately. Seems everybody and their brother are buying up bikes and trying to flip them. I remember the good old days when the only guys I had to compete against were the Bossman and Mswantak. :D Anyway, a nice 1976 Centurion "Super Le Mans" that was almost mint shape except for a couple of gouges in the paint. Anyways it cleaned up nice for the $25 I paid for it. Going out this weekend on Craigslist. I love those mixtes!!!!

I've been keeping a separate file with all the Holland info that's come out. I was just teasing with the earlier post. I don't think you could find another bike in the whole of the realm that could make me even consider changing my mind at this point.

Right, it's your fault...all of you in here. I didn't want to do it but I've been drooling over your finds and i've got a skint winter coming up and a restoration sounded fun...

I was browsing ebay and came across this thing, couldn't find much about Sun apart from they were made in Worksop and were bought by Raleigh in the 60's. Interesting.

Picked it up sight unseen, and the fella selling it told me he bought it in '57 or thereabouts - and although the ebay pics made it look like it was a bit of a wreck, it's just dirt...lots and lots of dirt - check the perfect chrome under the filth on the rim. It's touring geometry as far as i can tell, fairly light for what it is, nice simplex 5-speed mech, original Wright's saddle, headset's a bit crunchy but bar that, it's a cracker. Check the headbadge! It's had a respray and a decal bodge, so first job is strip it back and then get everything polished.

I think Carlton/Raleigh/Sun was all a bit incestuous from what i can gather...I think Suns were made in the Carlton factory in Worksop from about 1960...

Can't compete with you roadie snaggers, the only good roadie stuff around here is either vintage hanging in the bike shop, or brand new hanging in the bike shop. I did get a mini score today, though. A GT Talera of Tange Cro/Mo variety. Throwing some cables and Serfas drifters on it, and flipping it right back out there. $15.60 with tax from a local thrift store. Arraya rims, and full Shimano Altus(SP?) components. Not bad for a horrible neighborhood like this.,,,,BD

Finally got my 3-speed internal hub...it comes wrapped in a nice town roadie by Ross, in a nice autumn brown, no less.

Anyone know this bike? The 'Ross Europa 3'? I like the looks of it, and the long-reach brakes. And of course, the hub.

The rub? I sniped a sleepy auction at 00:53. It was nerve racking, but my late bluff paid off as the bidding didn't get over $5.50 before the timer ran out.:D

The Schwinn I posted above got its new life today.

New tires, new seat from my part bin, Cinelli bar tape, and a good cleaning/adjustment. It has a 31" standover, which is fine for me. I may even take it on the century ride I am going on next week...we'll see.

I'm going to cruise around on it for a bit and then put it on CL.

"Sun first began the production of cycle parts in 1885 and by 1906 were producing a range of machines. Their main period of fame was from the middle 20s through to the 50s. The Wasp was a popular almost budget priced lightweight aimed at the Clubman. Tandems represented quite a large part of their output. In 1940 they launched a new version of the Manx TT model which did not enter manufacture until 1945/6. It featured a seat tube joining the down tube about 2/3s the way down with a couple of extra struts from the bottom bracket to the seat tube. All this was done to make a short wheelbase which was seen as desirable then."
"Frames from the late 30s right into the 50s were also marketed under the Parkes name. In 1959 they became part of the British Cycle Corporation which was absorbed by Raleigh in 1960. From 1963 Sun machines bore the badge with Worksop rather than their original Birmingham. The name finally died under Raleigh in 1986. There a few good quality Team Replica bikes from the Sun/Truewel Racing Team made in the late 60s."

A real find is a coaster brake 3 speed internal. Evidently I've never seen an external 3 speed;). I only have two of them,, and one is laced into a Sun Rhyno Lite. Nothing like multispeed, and not having to deal with hand brakes:D No single malt and slippers, but Draft english beer and a dirt stripe on your back maybe? haha.,,,,BD
