That's exactly why I have the triple. It is there if I need that 28t chainring. 99.995% of my riding does not need that. Being an older guy, I like the 48 and 38 outer and middle rings. In fact most of the time I'm on the 38t middle chainring anyway, and cruising in gear combos from the high 60s to the mid 80s. Speed is not a priority to me, and I'd rather spin up any hills. For my proposed ride, I can't imagine I'll need any lower gearing than the 28 up front and the 26 cog out back for 29.1 gear inches.
