I agree, our bikes and taking pictures of them is 2nd only to riding them.. A lot of us have purchased cameras for the sole purpose to take pictures of our jewels, no matter what they may be..

Enough said, the pictures are awesome, the bike is awesome and the thought to take pro pictures was awesome!!

That is a first generation Vittoria Margherita. And technically, it is only a chain tensioner. You push the lever forward to get chain slack and then with either your hand or with a stick, you move the chain from side to side while back-pedaling to change gears.

The second generation VM added "paddles" that mount on top of the chain stay. The top of the lever on the second gen was made to twist which would then activate the paddles, moving the chain side to side while back-pedaling to change gears.

The link to Ray's info on his photo setup is a good one, covers all the bases for really nice bike portrait photos. I have a small softbox that's great for individual components that are off the bike, but not so much for a complete bike!

Diffusers on the lights is the key. As well as having enough wattage in lights. Like I say, simple in concept but not exactly easy or cheap to set up for the casual photographer. Those pics look great.

The setup actually isn't that bad. I use a white backdrop that rolls out on stands with the proper lighting. A nice canon cam with good prime lenses and a laptop. Overall cost is roughly probably 3-4k with a nice laptop and camera and lenses. It's really worth it if you use it often like i do on my website, but i guess for the average person it's not worth it if you're gonna do it once or twice.
mine looks something like this:

What type of website do you have? And, if it is bike related, what is the URL?

I don't really promote it a lot on the bikeforums.net.

but for future reference it is https://www.TorontoVintageBikes.com

we do a bunch of tear down rebuilds and some mid range to high end parts. It's more of a hobby.

check it out and tell me what you thoughts are.

i could stare at these all day, it's awesome that you had it done professionally, glad to see that they can be documented properly now.

Great images of two very worthy subjects.

Are you able to describe the stand? Looks like a piece of pvc but I can't really make out the base (which I suppose is the point).

Really lovely photos.

There's a photo studio here at the office where I shoot lots of still life stuff for clients. I've been meaning to bring a bike in one weekend and try it out.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that's a sandwich under the Frejus's saddle. Freshly made, or NOS?

Its a kilo of prosciutto.

Pictures of Ken taking pictures of my bike, only shows some of the setup as there were lights behind me.

Thanks for the process shots as well.

I am a fairly inept photographer and its good to look behind the curtain to see how it should really work.
