Bikes: Nishiki Prestige, Austro Daimler Inter-10

Just a couple more pics... may begin tomorrow with an early morning ride... One of my friends thinks I should sell her, but after the past week of working on it, I don't believe my wife would let me. Besides, it's something you're just not going to come across around here, and that's enough reason to keep and ride.

Quick inventory on the bike - Keep in mind I picked this up on ebay for $150 shipped to my door... I've spent money on inner-tubes, paint, and decals, so i may have roughly $225 in it... think I'm doing just fine.

Bikes: Bikes??? Thought this was social media?!?

Super nice build. Those Gatorskins don't give a supple ride.

Did you respray yourself?

edit: 1982 spec page for AD from the Bulgier.net site:

I see that the Inter10 and Olympian share tubeset (DB531), fork (531), head tube angle (74), Bocama lugs, Gipiemme drop-outs with the same wheelbase. Inter10 for '82 is listed as a frameset, Olympian built with Nervar crank and Huret. Maybe you should rebadge it Olympian?

I love the ride of mine with tubular wheels. Especially above about 16mph for my 61cm frame.

Great looking A-D. Water applique decals can be made for very little cost and with an inkjet printer.

From the A-D lineage, here's my mid 1950's Steyr-Daimler JC Higgins Clubman. Made in Austria sold by Sears Roebuck. Aluminum components. Hope to finish it this month including relaceing the wheels. Has battle scar's but I like it this way.

Bikes: Upright and Recumbent....too many to list, mostly Vintage.

Not all Inter-10's had the same length top tube. They changed that by the late-70's - early-80's.

Other models of AD were available in smoked chrome. I have an AD-SLE in smoked chrome. Its not as high end in terms of materials as an Inter-10, or Vent Noir, but its Smoked Chrome which looks cool as heck.

I've found the Catalogs for AD to be mostly poor references if you wanna make a bike look like what it did in the Catalog. I've also read that frequently with A-D the components a given bike would come with would be different than what was spec'd in the catalog....due to availability and stuff. That's true of any catalog but seems to be particularly so with Austro-Daimler.

Also worth nothing. AD's are silver brazed. For added awesomeness.

Here's my go-to rider. AD-SLE. In Smoked Chrome. with a Mostly Modern Drivetrain.....Dura Ace....mmmmm

Very nice looking bike, for some reason, I'm drawn to the vintage bicycles, the new stuff is cool, but not as cool as the old cooler stuff...

I went for a short ride this morning, the bike rode beautifully, absolutely silent, no noticeable chain noise, nothing... With the small issue of some random/automatic gear changes (had to tighten the levers), the only issue was me. I had planned on a slightly longer ride, but didn't quite make it... "man am I out of shape". Well this is going to change, I didn't put the hours in on the bicycle to have it collect dust, going to start putting some miles on her.

Thanks, I did spray it myself - rattle-can at that. With a satin finish it wasn't too much of a challenge, just a lot of even light coats and some sanding in between. I'll probably stick with the decals I ordered, I'm still not 100% sure I'm going to use the "Vent Noir" decals, probably just the AD... I'll decide when then get here...
I agree with you on the Gatorskins, they aren't very forgiving, but they'll do for the time being. Any suggestions as to my next set of tires?

I run Continental Sprinter tubulars on Mavic GL280/330 rims. Keep 'em light for this bike as the relatively steep head angle makes it a nimble handler, without being a racer. IMHO, of course. I call mine a 'fast Gentleman's rider'. The tall head tube would put it in the category of Endurance Bike in modern terminology.
