I have always liked those bikes. If, as I suspect, your cranks take standard 9/16" pedal shanks, your choice of pedals is vast.

Hmmmm........ I thought the early Epic Carbon bikes had polished aluminum lugs with clear coated visible weave CF tubes. Was this one re-painted and the lugs painted over? IIRC, the later 80's ones had darkish finished lugs with visible carbon weave and were not polished silver like the early ones. this bike must be an even later version from the 90's, maybe??

I concur that it seems like a later bike, maybe mistyped as a 93. I had a 93 and it was smooth. A handful on downhills when the front brake was needed, but overall a great ride for its day.

Did they even make these in '83? And can one make out the year of build from the serial number? I got an Epic about a week ago, but not sure of the birthyear : https://velospace.org/node/47028

Zieleman (Smiley), your Allez Epic is beautiful... what an awesome score!!!
You're right about the '83 year being incorrect. Consider the fact that Mike Sinyard was moving away from tig-welding on the earliest Stumpjumpers to lugged frame design in '83 and Yoshi Konno (3Rensho) was building the high line Allez bikes that same year.

There is a good site devoted to identifying the differences between a Konno frame and other Allez frames:

Agreed, 1983 is too early. In 1983, Specialized only had two models, the Sequoia (touring) and Allez (racing) and they were both lugged steel.
Their lugged carbon frames were coming in around 1985/1986 and the earliest had the black clearcoated main tubes with polished aluminum lugs. Beautiful bikes! If I were to ever go with crabon, that would be the frame for me
This one may be late 80s/early 90s. Looks like it's in fantastic condition and should make a fantastic rider. Nice components, too.

Most everyone of the racers I knew of that rode the early specialized frames from first couple years of production experienced lug/tube bond failures that specialized replaced under warranty.
