Does anyone recognize this serial format?
My friend owns a touring bike that we've been unable to figure out the model/make/year on. It's a lugged steel frame with forged drop outs. It's set for cantilever brakes, and has eyelets in both front and rear for racks.
The serial is M6-L0848. Does anyone know what it might be?

Hi Furmanjr,
The serial number format is possibly Merida of Taiwan. Some Mongoose BMX bikes have this format.
The BMX serial number decode site: Vintage mongoose: Serial #
So "M"=Merida, "6"= 1986, 1996, . . . "L"=December.
So the frame was built in 1986 or 1996 for the next years model, 1987 or 1997.
I have seen a Shogun Sport model with a "Made in Taiwan" decal with the same format of serial number: M6-Lxxxx.
It would be nice if you could post some pictures.
