original setup for a Basso (NOT) Team Lotto? di Loto
Can anyone advise me on the original configuration of a Columbus SLX XXXXX ( Correction NOT: Team Lotto, rather just plain old Fior Di Loto) Basso, the purple, yellow and white model?
I acquired one recently that had a mix of Campagnolo and Dura Ace 7402 STI.
Campy brifters and RD.
DA 7402 crankset, calipers and FD and seatpost.
I've got enough spare bits to take it either way.
Would this have originally have been Dura Ace?
(can anyone date this for me?)
Peter

Please don't be pressured to create yet another Italian SLX framed bike out there with the "default" C-Record/Delta gruppo. There's certainly much more neat stuff out there than just the "usual" stuff..... Problem I have the the C-Record/Delta stuff is they sometimes seem to so dominate the bike that it's more about the gruppo than the frame, which does not make any sense....especially as the C-Record Delta gruppo is just so overrated/overpriced, IMO.

Greetings;
I have a 1983 Lotto, and as I recall not many Basso's were sold as complete bikes, generally as frame sets, so you're likely to see most with a mix of components such as I have: Campag and Zeus, about what I could afford then. Hope this helps.

Beautiful frame! Build it up how you like. I have a Cilo SLX that is built up dura ace & a Pinarello SLX that is built up Mostly nuovo record. Both are great bikes. Edge goes to what you like. I always have a sweet spot for Campagnolo

I like Dura Ace. I like the positive Click-Click-Click! of old DA compared to the fluidity (mushiness?) of Campagnolo.
So, DA it will be.
Thanks

I am confused here. Is this Basso colored in the Team Lotto from some year? or are you confusing the Basso Loto (long O sound I believe) model with being a team replica?
These were nice looking frames back in the day I really wanted to try one of the MS Bassos.
Personally if it was mostly complete when you got it just build it with what you have on hand and make sure you like it

Team lotto did not ride with Basso in the late 80s. It's a Basso di Loto from 1988. This one is set up with Campy Chorus DT 7 speed.
Edit: BG beat me to the answer. Looks like the Tommasini behind is partly set up with Chorus bits.

you must be absolutely correct BianchiGirll (nice to see you again. It's been a while.)
what a dolt I am.
though now I am confused.
and I should do more research or be more knowledgeable before weighing in here.
My excuses.

The Tommasini in the original photo has been refitted (from a crappy Mirage setup) to an 8S Athena triple. The triple not being very authentic I'll admit but handy nonetheless.

so what the heck does "Fior di Loto" refer to?
I've found reference to a pastry shop called Fior di Loto
https://www.lineafiordiloto.it/it/
but I am hard pressed to believe that this is the inspiration for the frame.

Greetings T-Mar;
You are indeed correct as to the year of my Lotto, my wife bought me the frame during 1988 in Frankfurt, Germany with her first payday as a teacher. I suspect I'm suffering from CRS(can't remember s--t) lately. I added the parts: Zeus/Campagnolo as I could afford them. Thanks for the heads-up. I believe it's SPX tubing due to the large frame size. Take care T-Mar.
