What about Bob?
The older English bikes don't seem as common or as popular here as the Italian and French marques but many of the smaller builders turned out very good work. Bob Jackson had it's issues at times with with quality control but the people who have them seem to love them.
This bike came from the good folk at Toronto Vintage Bikes and judging from the serial # is a 1970 or 1971 frameset and fork (the numbers match) that was sent back to the factory by a previous owner for updating and painting. It's had bottle cage and shifter bosses, under BB derailleur cable guides and top tube brake cable guides added and then was repainted in Bob Jackson's "Grigio" which is a beautiful silver/grey metallic. The fork was also rechromed.
I decided to use 80's components to match the frame updates so it has Campagnolo Victory gears and crank and gutted synchro 2 shifters working as friction shifters only.
I've only had it out a couple of times but it feels great on the road, should be even better with the Veloflex tires.
I'm still not completely sure about the Gilles Berthoud saddle, I really want to use it but i have a white Concor light that looks really nice.

I think it is because most of us can but 3 or 4 midlevel Bianchis, Motos, Pugs, or Raleighs, for what one midlevel (if there is such a thing) Bob Jackson.
There are plenty of Raleighs lots of Holdsworths and even a few Hetchins scattered about the group.
Very pretty. Love those Victory cranks.

I love the english stuff. Here's my 1964 JRJ (Bob Jackson's original branding) in more or less current form. I posted a thread about this a long time ago, but I recently made some major changes. It's an amazing bike. I'll post a new thread when I have time to take some better pictures.

I will be the contrarian. Beautiful paint, great chrome. Really variable quality control and sometimes curious geometry.
Owned one, sold one. This was in the mid 70's though.
Later they did clean up their act I think, but my mind was set after working on enough of them.
Bob Jackson was a nice fellow, and his son Harold too.

Had a semi-custom Bob Jackson Tourist back around 1976, got stolen... want another one some day.
I live in a desert when it comes to quality C&V stuff, just about all of my bikes have been imported from New England or the upper Midwest.
