A-D serial numbers? I'm trying to identify my recently purchased steel frame set. Based on recent forum help it looks closest to an Austro-Daimler (though a bicycle fiend friend with three decades of experience suggested that it may be a Pinarello). The frame has been re-painted and hence no badge or decals. Gipiemme dropouts. Serial number on the bottom bracket, toward the front is 7114455 F. On the opposite side, toward the rear of the frame, is 6 457. Does that sound right? The few databases I've seen only have the initial numbers with no mention of the numbers on the rear of the BB. Any ideas?

Do you have any other photographs you can post? I don't know, that doesn't "feel" like an A-D frame to me ..

that's not a Pinarello...no way any number of "decades of experience" would convince me.
I thought Chuckk's theory of it being an A-D or Puch was very convincing since he had a picture of one that was a near match.

I agree, it looks nearly identical to the A-D or Puch. I'm just curious about the extra serial numbers. It's a great ride.

seems like "puchfinnland" has a lot of A-D and Puch experience, maybe he could help you with the serial numbers...since T-Mar has checked out I am in a complete fog when it comes to numbers!

Only a 7 digit number on the BB of my AD Olympian.

edit: From the initial picture the tubing looks oversized, maybe just 'optical confusion' on my part. Only one set of bottle braze-ons? AD was stingy w/ braze-ons, at least for me. Bottle brackets and BB cable guides are clamp-on in '81 Olympian. I like the 531 DB frame & flat crown fork, no chrome. Not the stiffest ride in the largest frameset.

How about the fork crown, head tube and the seat tube cluster?

86 AD/Puch Mistral?

Just about every AD/Puch I've seen (not a ton mind you) has AD or Puch stamped on the top of the seat stays. I'm sure there are some without but with the different serial number markings I'd lean towards it being something else. My has AD on the stays and is serial number 6186241 (79ish).

If you go back to the original "ID this frame" thread you'll find a (now hidden) link to a 1983 A-D (actually a Puch) SLE frame that has many matching features, including no panto on the stay caps. It's not conclusive since there are a few differences like the cable routing and number of WB bosses...but it seems to be something along that line, maybe for the EU (or some other) market.
