oa frame treatment (for the millionth time)
I picked up a 84 traveler frame and fork yesterday. Quite a bit of rust on the inside. I have two dogs and two cats milling about the place, so my question is this. Can I simply plug the seat tube and head tube, and pour it full of the oa mix? Also, do I have to remove the crown race before treating the fork?

As long as the stays, down tube and top tube don't open into the seat tube and head tube, causing leaks, you could do what you propose. If the crown race is chrome and not pitted, no need to remove it.

If you're worried about the toxicity of OA around cats and dogs, you can remove rust with white vinegar or citric acid powder (smells nice, non toxic). Six of one, seven of the other. Whatever tickles your pickle.

I'm just asking, but for an internal job, would just hitting it with framesaver to stop the rust from expanding be good enough?

And to himespau, I really doubt that I could lay hands on any Framesaver in a timely manner. I intend to pour some boiled linseed oil in there after the rust treatment.

in my experience, OA works best if you can leave it soaking... i used an old sand box and filled it up with water and dumped the whole bucket of OA in it, i used it to treat my 73 DL1 i that was in really bad shape

That IS impressive. OA is far and away the most economical route for me, as I can buy a kilo of it for around $4. Guess I'll get started building a frame-size frame.
