I have a friend that was given an old guitar by a lady at his church. She left it in his carport wrapped in a quilt. She said to be sure and get the quilt back to her as she thought it might be valuable.
The guitar inside was an early 40's Martin O-42.......worth several thousand dollars. He made a large anonymous donation to his favorite charity in her name.

Definitely an incredible story! What were the chances of your friend having one of your dream bikes, and given to you for free? Also incredible, but believable. I love the story, and that's why I search with great expectations for my bike scores! "Great expectations, don't leave home without them"! :-) Your BJ is truly beautiful, and that's just standing still! I can just imagine what it looks like moving at a fast rate of speed! Congratulations on finding it, very well deserved.

Such a beautiful bike, with outstanding paint and truely unique Lugs and details. I would definitely put the Campy group on it. One of my Grail bikes for sure.

Late to the party, but that is an awesome score. The beautiful craftsmanship, paint and distinctive BB shell and lugs with the stiffening webbing demand your attention. 853 is icing on the cake.

OK ~ I have her ready to rock and roll!
Total tear-down, switched-out the seat-post for one that was not gouged into oblivion, mounted a new Selle Anatomica Titanico X saddle in black with copper rivets. (Bought on their winter sale for $99.00) Switched the brakes back over to correct side. New bar wrap in black...

OK, THANKS for all the info and kind compliments.. But it gets weirder than this....
So, two months ago I bought a too small (Basically new) 1992 LeMond alpe d'huez from the LBS. It had been sitting on consignment for more than two years. (They sold it new in 1992 or thereabouts) So, I like it because it is ALL CAMPY "Mirage" and I like Campy for no other reason than I do, and this bike is new! (I know Campagnolo Mirage is not fabulous, but this bike is basically new, and it is ALL Campy)
So, they know I've been eyeballing it for a very long time and every time I'm in there, they are always saying: "JIM, would you please buy that!"
So, all this time I'm watching eBay for a nice frame-set to build with the components from this LeMond and then just flip the LeMond frame on Ebay after I'm done.
So around Thanksgiving time with another riding season over, I low-ball them basically for the low-end value of price of the 8-speed Campy group on eBay. They call the guy and he accepts. WOO-HOO!
So, it's sitting here while I shop for a frame..
Soooooo.... Since I'm tearing this Jackson down to bare-bones for a total tune-up and cleaning, should this baby get that 8-speed Campy set? Should I?

My business associate 'friend' is not a bicycle rider and the fact that he had this bike at all was an incredible fluke. ~ And since my original post, his favor of this gifted Bob Jackson has already been repaid one thousand-fold via our recent business transactions. So, I'm owning it now guilt-free. What a lucky score it was. Now if it weren't the middle of winter, life with my Bob Jackson would be just perfect.
