Man, that frame is clean, lug work and lines are fine. I've heard of Mooney when I was living on the other side of the Charles in Brighton. But never saw one of his frames.
Very nice score.

Thanks for all these photos and the photos you share with us throughout the year.

Noticed and appreciated.

Also, I dig your Mooney as well. Very nice bicycles Gentlemen.

PCB has some serious bike porn! I spent a good long while looking at Mooney's photo page and his work is in a class of its own. Like thinktubes, I've had him on my radar for a while...I thought his work was incredible.

I hope to have this ready by Friday.

Pretty sure I saw this one at Belmont Wheelworks around 2005 or so. Sweetness.

I just added a P Mooney to my bucket list! :-) Unbelievable bike! Gorgeous! That is one phenomenal and stunning looking bike! Congratulations on the score! :-)

Earlier in the thread I mentioned wishing I knew who did the paint. I had a suspicion...I thought it might be Fresh Frames and I've done some research and confirmed. Fresh Frames is in PA...now in York...and does the nicest paint, bar none, I've seen. I've had Joe Bell, Cycle Art (over rated), Vanilla, Litton, Bilenky and Southwest paint jobs go through my grubby fingers and I can say that none of them are as nice as Fresh Frames (the Vanilla is closest). The only paint I've seen that is as nice is Tom Kellogg/Spectrum...who does incredible detailing.

My first experience with Fresh Frames was the Bilenky (another member has a Fresh Frames painted Bilenky too, a green one):

I'll post photos of the complete Mooney some time this weekend...the paint just really stands out and pops.

Nice find! Gorgeous bike! I came across their site and was amazed by the bikes on their Flickr page:

Will have to look into one of those...

Thanks for the additional photos, Aaron. Absolutely drool-worthy, and as nice as they come. Congrats!

Thanks gents - the photo isn't good (rain), and I'll try to do better tomorrow - but here it is (note, I was talked into keeping the hoods, housings and tape):

That's my new favorite right there.

I wish I could get a photo that presented the deep violet of the panels well...it just looks black. The fork blades also have an elegance that I love.

Fits the 33.5's just fine, but it wouldn't with fenders.

Your Koga has fenders.

You're covered.

Aaron, I was in Via Bicycle on Friday talking to Curtis and saw your Mooney in the back. You're right that the photos can't capture the subtlety of the paint. It's a real beauty, and the paint looks flawless. Good luck with it, maybe I'll see you on the road with it.

Now I'm trying to get that pink and purple Carlton Curtis has stashed upstairs out of my mind.

KonAaron Snake 12-29-13 01:51 PM

That is a BEAUTIFUL Carlton. The chain is too thick for the triple, but my thinner chain was too thin for the freewheel - they're helping to space the rings better than I'm able to do.

That helped Jim!

Need opinions since I'm aesthetically challenged -

I like the yellow cages to help pull out the yellow Mooney decals. When I do secondary colors I try not to have two of them next to one another. I'm thinking black cable housing....or maybe red to pull out the TT decal and lug cut outs.

Pull back the Spenco's and tape the bare area with black cloth them slide the Spenco's back in place.

Orrery 12-29-13 03:01 PM

Beautiful! Never seen one in person but always enjoy ogling pictures of the work of the local master. Great score.

Good call on the Spencos - I've never had it before and wasn't sure what to do with it.

thinktubes 12-29-13 03:18 PM

Wow, that turned out great!!!!

Feeling a little overwhelmed by the yellow bits. It's become the focal point and it's throwing off the overall balamce of the build IMHO.

Fahrenheit531 12-29-13 03:28 PM

That is one beautiful bike. :thumb:

Kobe 12-30-13 08:51 AM

My preference would be the yellow, blue and yellow has always been my favorite color combination.

KonAaron Snake 01-08-14 11:10 AM

Jim suspected cloth tape under the Spencos...worked gang busters. So far I'm sticking with yellow cages, but reserve the right to change my mind. I love these tires, they're quick, comfortable and supple.
