Bikes: LESS than I did a year ago!

Finally...My Super Course!

Hi Everyone...just wanted to let you know that I finally located...and purchased a Super Course to add to my collection...and I am quite thrilled with it. It appears to have most of the original components, it needs a good cleaning...obviously with consumables updated...

Here are a few pictures...and from the serial number data bases, I have put it at a 1979...but...as I post more info...you guys can help me confirm/change the date...but I think that is right!

I now have a 1970 International, 1971 Professional, a Competition (not a Comp GS) and 1979 Super Course...Raleigh collection in full swing! Oh...and the 1985 Team USA Replica!

Yeah yeah yeah! Ho digggity, daf!
You have a very worthy addition to your stable there. I am a big fan of these things, though I can't get get any more specific on the year than post-76 without the serial number (beginning with alpha-alpha-num, with num indicating the year).

BTW - Now you need to find a Grand Sports and a Super Tourer to fill a gap in your collection.

Bikes: 1959 Capo Modell Campagnolo; 1960 Capo Sieger (2); 1962 Carlton Franco Suisse; 1970 Peugeot UO-8; 1982 Bianchi Campione d'Italia; 1988 Schwinn Project KOM-10;

Great-looking bike, and interesting groupo. When did Raleigh switch from French to Japanese drivetrain? I agree with the other post -- SunTour ratchet barcons are delightful -- several years ago I put a set on the Peugeot commuter.

+1 - But that's probably because that sneaky seller disguised it as a "tourist" instead of a "tourer".

The Super Course MK II from 76 was all Japanese. Why I sold mine I'll never know.

No - But the HEADBADGE has most of the Raleigh catalogs extant.

Black, with white or brown hoods; or brown with black hoods. JMO

Very nice bicycle, I love that colourway, no one ever did it the way Raleigh did, IMHO. JohnE, my '79 was all Suntour for the crankset, ders and barcons. It had Universal center pull brakes on it. That was a great bicycle, I commuted to university on it daily and alternated it with my International for club rides. I'd love to find them both and restore them, and if wishes were horses beggars would ride.....

Bar tape, I used black with white stock Raleigh hoods on the Super Course and white with Suntour Superbe brown gum hoods on my International (swapped the Universal center pulls for Suntour Superbe side pulls that barely reached correctly, whew.)

Congrats - looks like it's in great shape. I'll be interested to see it post-cleaning with any changes you decide to make.

It's nice to see someone who's already got a Professional, an International, and a Competition still actively seek out a Super Course.

I was about to give you a run for the money on that one... I had a conversation with my wife "Should I or shouldn't I?" She was for it, I talked myself out of it. When you get it together, please post some pics that I can live vicariously.

I have a Super Course. I bought it when I was in high school. After 40 years of riding, I decided to retire her. The number stamped on the frame is 311091. Can anyone decipher that? I think it is a 1972 model, which I purchased new.

Beautiful - brings back memories

I bought mine in 1980 or 81; my first serious road bike. Same color, maybe one size larger (!), same paint, same 12-speed moniker. SR crankset, Atom pedals, Maillard hubs with 27" Weinmann concave rims, Campy NR seatpost, Suntour derailleurs, Weinmann brakeset.

By the time I was done with it (when it got stolen) I'd replaced nearly everything but the crankset with Campy; I went with a Suntour brakeset. It was a great bike and I must have ridden thousands of miles in the 7+ years I owned it.

I'd like to find one again someday. Congrats on your way-cool find!

Oh, and I vote black cloth tape

On the tape, I have decided on Eggplant Cloth Tape (to give it some color pop!) with black saddle and silverish cable housings...hopefully it turns out as I am imagining...

Just be sure to reroute the brake cables behind the bars.
