inexpensive 27" gumwall tires?

i put paselas on my bikes. i love the ride, and they're a great value.

but what about purchasing 27" gumwalls for your barhopper/grocery-getter where you don't care as much, or maybe you're watching every penny for that classic flip that needs to both look good (not too cheap) and ride decently?

i'm looking for inexpensive options on 27x1" or 27x1 1/8" gumwalls. is there high-pressure option out there that is actually a good value when compared to paselas? saving $10 is great, but paying $40ish for a pair of paselas may be as good as it gets. your thoughts?

The 1 1/4" are a few pennies $.71 more. Not the lightest, but more comfy than the 1 1/8.

Kenda Street K35 Road Tire 27 x 1-1/4 Black/Tan Steel

Basic Panaracers are cheap
Panaracer Pasela 27 x 1-1/4 Black/Tan Steel

Need cheap wide 700c's? Forte's at $9.99 each

Forté Gotham ST Road and Mountain Tires, 700 x 32, 700 x 35, 26 x 1.75 - Bicycle Tires

Forte Stradas. They're not gumwalls, but they do come in 27x1 1/4, they're cheap and I think they ride and hold up well.
Forté Strada K Road Tire - Bicycle Tires
There's also a cheaper, less puncture resistant version if you're just looking to sell the bike.
Forté Strada Road Tire - Bicycle Tires

There might be something better and cheaper, but I have a Performance Bike just a few miles away, so as far as I'm concerned they're ideal. I'm not really into the whole flipping bikes thing anyway. I've already got more bikes than I need, but every bike I buy or build I intend on using as a rider.

$15 is cheap. i'll probably do that this time.

oddjob, you flip (for lack of a better word) a lot of bikes, right? how do you approach the tire issue? is it dependent on the quality or expense of the build? do you have a 'go-to' tire for most?

and that's what i need for the '74 pr10 i'm building. i like to match the catalog page whenever possible.

i'm not into the flipping thing either. but i'm very much interested in rebuilding bikes to great detail. i loathe hoarding. and i'm not rich. so selling (flipping] the bikes i rebuild just happens from my wrenching addiction.

three's plenty for me, and i now have five, so i need to sell two. the proceeds will go towards the next one, which i couldn't afford without a buyer helping me out.

and it just feels good resurrecting a classic for someone and getting him or her out on the road on a beautiful old road bike.

27" Rims
<= $250, Kenda K35s.
> $250, either the $15 Panaracers gumwall, or if aesthetics dictate blackwalls, Vittoria Zaffiros

700c Rims
<= $250, Hutchinson Nitros (Nashbar) whitewalls, or Forte Stradas
> $250, Vittoria Zaffiros or Continental Ultra Sports (REI for both)

REI rebate is 10%.

Mixtes almost always get Sunlite whitewalls (rebranded Kenda).
Hybrids get Michelin World Tour with reflective strip.

Some BF members dislike Kenda, but they are OEM on so many Treks, Giants, etc.
