Brown or black?
I finally replaced the way too short stem and can get my Lotus going again. I did learn that this bike was almost too nice to commute with, and still favor my war beaten Mercian. In that light, I am replacing the modern brakes with something more are appropriate.
I have diacompe levers with brown hoods and quick release, or gran compe with black hoods.
So, brown or black?
I'm not sure what bar tape color yet, probably fizik microtex though.

I think I would go with black, then use white cables and tape to try and bring out the white (silver?) Lotus decal.

i like gum colored hoods on most vintage bikes, especially if running gumwall tires.
so, go browns!
i had a nishiki this color a few years ago. unfortunately that was my aero-lever period where i put some cheap black levers on it. but i was happy with the silver fizik tape:
only one thing is really certain. you have to remove the dork disk.

Brown hood to match the tires. What color tape are you thinking? I like @Bianchigirll's idea about the white cables. Black hoods would be too much black given the frame.
