Flamin' Groovies circa 1970

I am a Vintage 1947 year of birth baby, graduated High School in 1965, ride a Specialized that I have not changed much since I bought the 1993 Moedel new in 1994. With the exception of tires, tubes, bar tape, that is all period correct. Heck my water botles I use daily are from a 1995 event the Cactus Cup. My Shoesare from 1993 they a LEATHER Diadoras, and srtill function, & My Frame & Floor pump are 1990's Zefels and still work,

I love 50-60-70 Rock n Roll, listen to that era music on the AM radio dial. If I could trurn back the hands of time and relive the 50-70 with some changes, or just how they went down I woud do it all over again.

This is how vintage I am... This kind of music started in my country, Belgium and was extremely popular all over the world right around the time I was born. :)

This is a mix by the Dewaele brothers from Soulwax:

I kinda like it but it isn't really my style of music... I'm more into 60's-70's-80's rock/metal and 80's pop music :p

One of my biggest thrills in the music business was meeting him many, many years ago. This makes me sad for his family........

Yes, very sad for them. He seems to have been a great, generous man. Neat that you were able to meet him - I didn't know that you spent time (still do?) in the music business.

One of my most admired in that business. There'll never be another Bowie. One of a kind.

My prime musical genre is 1950s Rockabilly - Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochrane, Ricky Nelson (very under rated), Buddy Holly, The Collins Kids, Carl Perkins, Jack Scott, etc. I'm also a big Roy Wood/Jeff Lynne fan, so I'm really into The Move/ELO/Wizzard. My guilty pleasure band is the Go-Go's. However, when I'm in the shop, working on the bicycles, I prefer something more mellow and often listen to Doris Day, Julie London or Katie Melua. The latter is about the only contemporary singer that I listen to on a regular basis.

When I was young. Fifteen total years in sales marketing, general management, tour promotions, record label distribution etc.

Fun, crazy times. :)

I blew my first speaker playing Blue Cheer's Summertime Blues. I also saw them live.

There's nothing wrong with my hearing. Everyone around me mumbles.

LesterOfPuppets 01-11-16 10:16 AM

I saw Blue Cheer in 2004 or thereabouts. Amazing show!

Grand Bois 01-11-16 11:12 AM

That's over 40 years after I saw them. Could it be the same band? Were they codgers? Were they still a three man band?

The lead screamer died in 2009 at 63.

The internet says they broke up in 1972, so I don't think it's the same Blue Cheer.

Codgers indeed. Dickie Peterson died in 2009, unfortunately, so that was the last chance to see them

I'm aways skeptical about older acts but they totally kicked ass.

Very cool; it's not every day that you get to see jacque anquetil grooving to the music; at least I think it's him at the 1:38.

Strange brew, disraeli gears, cream:

and of course Charles Wahl who posts here created the best guide on old derailleurs, Disraeli Gears - a derailleur collection

Me too. And I haven't seen many. But did go see Steely Dan a few months ago and, while not the original lineup by any means, they were very good.

LesterOfPuppets 01-11-16 11:33 AM

Oops, looks like I missed the very last chance to see Blue Cheer in my area. They played Portland in 2008.

I won't say they invented metal, but it was the first I ever heard.

I got dragged to a Harry Belafonte concert at the Hollywood Bowl by a girlfriend and her mother a few years ago. It turned to to be a great concert.

I think performers get better with experience in front of an audience.

(I don't think the disc in question is connected to a 29er MTB...)
