Help identify Univega from add image!
The image above is all the info this Craigslist has to help determine this bike! (The text only states: "every thing works, medium sized road bike") I'm wondering if this could be a steal for only $40? And due to this add, I don't think the current owner knows anything about bikes. So haggle him down to $20 could be....
So far, I think it's a late 70's or early 80's roadie from the brake levers and chrome trimmed fork. I've asked him for a picture of the top tube text to get a model name.

Decent transportation or basic recreation bike -- easily worth $25 if the rims are true, but be ready to replace brake pads (salmon KoolStops), tires, tubes, rim strips, and perhaps cables and chain.

I'm trying to get a sense of collective value, because I'm looking to add a classic roadie to my quiver.

How "classic" a classic roadie do you want? This one is pretty basic, not in the same league as the sought-after stuff.

I'm a bicycle mechanic, and have plenty of spare parts for basic repairs. I already know, if I were to go with this one I'd replace the stem shifters for a downtube SIS shifter.

Bottom end, steel rims, high ten steel frame, stem shifters, etc. Collectors are not interested in such bikes. But at the $40 price point, it is a good deal.
Safari Ten?

If a Safari Ten with hi-ten frame and steel rims, it won't be my rider. But I might still get it if I can get him down to $20, because then I could sell it for more after some refurbishment!?!?
The shop I work at is a bit of a used bike dealer in addition to new Raleighs and some e-bikes.
I opened this thread at the same time as this one because there's many adds I'm looking at:

Someone gave me a Univega Safari. I cleaned and lubed it made sure it braked and shifted as well as it could and put it on CL for $50. Sold it in 3 days, the guy loved it.
Hardly worth the time, grease or brake cables.
