Awesome bike. That has many of the prewar hallmarks- fender braces, seat clamp, etc. It looks like it has an old slide rail Mesinger saddle as well, which would be correct. DD is a cool variation too. These are awesome, underrated bicycles.

That stick shift is cool. My Bendix 2-speed's shifter looked like a handbrake lever.

Just to clarify, I believe the DD 2-speed conversion unit was used to modify the single speed New Departure Model D coaster brake for two speeds.

As far as the bike itself is concerned, and forgetting the DD 2-speed rear hub for a moment, here's the pre-war catalog page (I believe it's from 1941).

With the cottered crank arms instead of the one piece crank, that would be my guess.

It's a re-paint by me. A 1940 model as the fillit brazing joints(a Schwinn trade mark)are not brazed but steel welded and leaded.I painted the chrome parts as not to have the expense of re-chroming. As for as the DD hub it's not the conversion unite but the DD hub (first out in 1938)--the larger Schwinn books show that any option ordered for the paramount frame could also be ordered on the new world frame. And yes some paramount's were ordered with coaster brakes. and the DD hub is correct for this bike.The rims on this bike were chrome but I re-painted dark blue along with the front Schwinn large flange hub.Tire size is 26X1.375(firestone tires)

Looking at an early forties catalog, the complete DD 2-speed hub was $11 and the "conversional unit" to convert a standard Model D coaster brake to a two-speed coaster brake hub was $7.50.

The DD is a cool element to have on it. These bikes could take many forms in terms of parts. You could order just about any parts set for them, from balloon tire type stuff, to English parts, to Paramount parts, and every mix in between.
