Helped a neighbor / friend this past weekend on getting him wheels fitted to his bike plus related work. While at the LBS, I was rummaging in the vintage / junk bin. At the bottom was an NOS cantilever brake cable yoke hanger. Anodized blue, CNC peace symbol. It was only $5 but my friend piped up and purchased as a gift, and as he kindly stated, something I'll always remember him when I see it. Cool, eh?
So this morning, awoke at 4:30 and just after making coffee, couldn't wait any longer and installed the piece - peace part on my junker Stumpjumper. Sor, no pix but here's a stock image of the part.

Lug lining Tuesday went OK. Not the best, but at my age, "Best" is seldom seen. Wednesday I used some lacquer thinner to clean up the flubs. Then began to strip parts from the Kaleido/Confetti PKN-10 in preparation for a January visit with gugie. Gus, my Rescue Short Hair came in to warm up for a while. Wife has a Dr. appt. today + I'm taking grand daughter by DMV to register her 1st car(that we bought last night), so will remove PKN BB tonight. Don

Checking ebay and the classifieds looking for a pair of Campy 100/130 skewers for my Lemond Zurich build. Late 90s / early 00s would be ideal. Would like then to be nice ones, if I can locate a set. Does anybody have a set they don't need that they would be willing to part with?

'84 Klein...
Pulled 600AX calipers, replaced w/stout Tiagra. Sanded down a Kestrel EMS Pro fork (from Green) and cleared over the bare weave. Will replace the chrome steel fork on the same Klein.

Great minds and all that! I actually got gold paint also, but it is for my Ivory Lotus which some prior owner started most of the head tube with, but then gave up. Now, if you can rescue a German Shorthair Pointer, and have a Belgian Shotgun, we will be a perfect complement. Don

Was having an awful time trying to polish some Stronglight and TA cranks. The polishing wheel just wouldn't work its magic the way it used to. I cleaned it twice but no luck. Spent about 2 hours trying everything I could think of.
I finally figured out that rouge stick, when it gets old, gets dry and loses its magic. Opened up the other, protected end of the stick and it was just like old times!

Took my last commute ride aboard my '84 Miyata 610 today as it was wet. The day before was dry, so that honor went to my '85 Paramount. For both, it was just as well. Both Q4 builds, and both superb bicycles.
Switched out some 32mm Conti Ultra Race tires from one set of rims (new 24mm wide parabola-profile high polish Weinmann wheels from a '16 Raleigh) to another (7400 hubs/high polished MA2s). The Conti/Weinmann partnership was for my black Cannondale ST, but that bike is being re-imagined and sold (I hope, it's a good chance) to a coworker. I researched and bought the tires new for a good price, really like them, and barely have any miles on them. So I'm keeping them and putting the wheel/tire combo on a newly acquired 1982 Miyata 1000 (!!!) frameset.
My chrome Super Le Tour will go to one of my younger brothers so he and his wife and son can go riding. Gotta keep that chrome in the family! I will build it with a flat bar and with CX tires for half road/half MTB. The 1000 takes its place as one of the five keeper bikes (while I sell five more), but before it gets built up, this Bike Works sourced frameset will need a new RD dropout and right rear canti post stud (not the box part that attaches to the seat stay). There was an "event" that happened prior to being donated, and I am the beneficiary. A 1982 Miyata 1000 was not yet "peak touring bike" as it has only one bottle cage mount, 43cm chain stays, and only one pair of eyelets front and rear; but it is their top shelf grand tourer with cantis and touring geometry. Full DB chromoly, long point, engraved lugs that scallop quite closely to the adjoining tube, Superbe shifters. I am very excited about it, and it will be getting in line at [MENTION=381793]gugie[/MENTION] 's shop to bring her back to life. 3x9 down tube shifting will be the arrangement, and the DA wheels and 32mm Conti tires will be on it. [and I'll start a thread soon enough]

Lot of good bike-related stuff going on. Orange and gold, dogs and cats helping, polishing sticks, Miyata with braze-ons everywhere.
I spent part of yesterday afternoon searching online through jewelry suppliers for just the right pieces to replace the missing blue gems on Cobalto brakes. I settled on some Swarovski crystals. Faceted, not domed, but that will make them unique!
Then my sweetie and I saw The Last Jedi Movie, err, I mean The Last Jedi movie. Well, it is the last Jedi movie until they make another, which will make this one merely the latest now (but not the latest when they do make another). It was, um, whelming. Visually it was stunning of course. The plot twists though complex just weren't consistent enough. Neither the plot nor most of the characters had the strength of their convictions. The best character by far was Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico. Rose really believed in her cause and showed that she did. Everyone else, you couldn't be sure about. Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamil were okay as Rey and Luke, though they had ambiguous scripts to work with. Most everyone else were just props, or acted like just props. On the other hand we got see Jimmy Garappolo fly an X-wing fighter. Finally, I was disappointed in the audio. The whiz-bang scenes and accompanying music were too loud. Can't blame the theater for cranking the levels though. The dialog wasn't especially loud, so the problem was the relative levels between effects and dialog, just grade B mixing. This theater always has well-calibrated audio too. (Also I spent 10 years as an engineer at Lexicon, which included developing home-theater self-calibration systems. So I know a little bit about audio.)
But enough about that. Back to bikes...

I spent part of yesterday wrapping a Jack Taylor Mixte in a fuzzy blue winter coat. Some folks around here put little fuzzy winter coats on their pampered pups so I figured this nice little frame deserved the same treatment.
No it's not a bicycle in bondage; rust removal actually. The next step was to saturate the cloth with an oxalic acid solution, then wrap it with plastic wrap to keep the moisture in. Today, after an overnight soak, I'll remove the plastic and cloth to reveal, hopefully, a rust-free frame.

Taking apart my very first project bike to use some of the parts on a much better one. Darn crankset won't come off (I just want the BB, dang it!)

Found a reasonably priced set of Campy skewers for my Lemond Zurich build. And the Chorus shifters have been serviced and are on their way back. Now I just need the frame.
