I know how cool the bikes I have now- as much as I'd like space, I know I'd be kicking myself for selling one of my current bikes.

What's the age of consent for a bicycle?

I'm not sure if a family reunion is a good place to find a bike or not but this past Sunday, I ran across a second cousin who's into cycling. She's coming over to my house to check out my bike collection and we're going for a ride on Thursday.

She has 3 or 4 bikes so maybe it's an hereditary disease?

Back around 1979 when I was still running a bike shop, I had 8 or 10 bikes in the corner of our oversize garage at my house.

Three of them were my riders the rest were strays - gas pipe bike boom specials that I was going to fix up and give away to people who needed them.

One afternoon my live together paramour came out to the garage and pointed to the bikes and said "They go or I go"!

I waited a few nano seconds and responded - "Jeesh, I'm gonna miss ya"! End of conversation - PERIOD!

What she really meant was she wanted me to fix a few of them up for her girl friends.... Say what you mean, mean what you say.

Dave Cutter, that must be a reference to Breaking Away, right? I watched that back in January and loved it! Loved it so much, that I got a copy on the inter-library loan and it's sitting right here next to me, waiting to be watched again.

Ciao, papa!

A garage (actually, a basement) full of bikes and nowhere to ride. It is snowing again.

I am sitting at 10 riders right now. My wife has absolutely no problem with my bike addiction. The money I make flipping bikes pays for our vacations and any of her purchases. Also, all of my keepers were paid for from profits I made selling bikes.

This is true. I am very pleased with my current road bike, it didn't start out as a 'grail' bike but at some point it occurred to me that it would be hard to improve upon. I might find a prettier bike though that is hard to imagine, I might end up with a fancier or more expensive bike but that seems unlikely to happen anytime soon. If anything it would be a much older, more 'hard to come by' bike such as a Frejus or Hetchins.

With my heart full at the sight of her, I have begun looking for other types of bikes; mountain, touring, single-speed, commuter, etc. I am in the process of putting together what may be the best mountain bike for me. At this point I am thinking my commuter and tourer will be the same.

I think after four or five bikes my focus will shift to simply flipping or finding 'the' bike for my son or friends.

I enjoy the process of fixing up the bikes as much as riding them (though that can kill my bank account). But after I finish a project i am always looking for a new one. I don't have too many bikes yet...2 commuters, 2 modern bikes and an old Schwinn, and my current vintage mtn bike project. I look at CL every day. We are pretty desolate for good bikes at good deals, every now and then something interesting pops up

I don't want to end up with bikes I don't ride. Unless I find a ridiculous deal on something with 531tubing and has most of its parts I am done on road bikes. Ill start looking for touring and maybe an old Raliegh 3 speed.
Who am I kidding...done with road bikes lol. I try to be doscerning and will only jump on a ridiculously good deal, lest yhe wife banish me to the sofa for a few nights.
I don't really have a grail, other than finding something better than I have for a heckuva deal.

The hunt is fun

^yes! I think things can get watered down with too many.

*especially* if they're that sad combination of not ridden and not a museum piece / grail either

that being said, bikes are awesome, useful, and relatively cheap.
imagine (I'll bet a bunch of you can do so accurately!) being into classic cars! and if your significant other is truly angry there are definitely a thousand and one vices more expensive and worse than being into bikes. as a teacher I can give folks a laundry list stuff kids are into these days

I have a friend that collects milk trucks. His workshop is 40 x 60, and its jammed, with just 3 milk trucks. Meanwhile, my 100+ bikes take up much less $$ and space. My pile is not a collection, I have 10 to 15 in that category.

I have or still do collect various things like *****s (those things you whack deer with), baseball cards, fast cars.....so my wife was well conditioned when it came to bikes (though I only have 3 1/2 at the moment).
