Bikes: too many

I rode yesterday, probably less than 10 miles (do to not getting my ship together earlier). Was going today, only to find the back tire flatted. Dang it; musta been all the road debris left over from the snow and ice prep.

I am old(58), Fat(100kg), and slow(24Km/h), and basically retired. But living here in Cambodia I never stop riding. I don't miss Eastern PA winters but next year while I am in the States for 4 months from Sept till Jan I hope global warming kicks in.

I've been reassigned to "pasture job" since I put in my military retirement packet and the new boss has no qualms with me taking a couple hours to ride in the middle of the duty day as long as the job is done. I'm still fat, I'm no younger, but I can definitely say I'm getting faster and a tad slimmer with those midday rides.

2014 was a pretty awful year on multiple levels. I won't let it define my future. This is the year that I ride multiple centuries and get back down to the same zip code of weight that a younger man who laced those boots up 20 years ago.

I'm everything that most of you have described above, but that is not my question. I would also like to know when the vintage ride is - I will be in Chicago April 25-27 for convention my wife attends and would like to do a nice ride that weekend. I would have to rent a bike, but it sure would be fun riding with some people who appreciate the finer, older things in cycling. Any idea when the ride will be?

Bikes: Anything with a full record group.

Road 20 miles round trip to the Sunday flea market. My wife's cannondale that I built up for her got tons of compliments, my mongoose atb not so many, but it was fun acting like a kid jumping curbs and riding through the muck. The cannondale got a pinch flat 2 blocks from home, so I walked the remainder with my wife. We had a blast!

If I make that Spring outing ride, could bring an extra bike North IL for you. Have a variety of frame sizes.

I feel your pain. This time of year, before the roads have been cleaned, is hard on tires and tubes!
I have probably had 4 flats in 10 trips in 2015. Yesterday was the first ride for a little over a month. I got out after the first of the year several times- lots of flats.
The weather in Ohio turned - and yesterday was the painful - month and a half off ride - knock on wood - no flats!
You do know what will happen today at a lunch time ride.......

LOTS of spin this winter, only occasional riding. I gave up on riding in snow (which here means 'on ice') a long time ago, just takes too long to mend at my age.
But this week...THIS WEEK...temps in the 50's+, some rain to wash away the dreck, lots of sun. Hope to be getting on the road again later this week.

What size are you? We should be able to rustle something up. As for timing, see post 30.

Not quite old and not yet fat, but riding season is definitely here! First big ride at the end of the month (Joop Zoetemelk Classic), and the road salt is gone so the SOMEC can hit the streets again.

I thought this was one of those AA type threads.

On a side note, I did do 55 miles on a spin bike at the gym Saturday morning. Does that count as actual riding? On another side note I will be turning 50 next week. The "pat" in seypat should tell you the day.

Haven't been on the bike since the end of November, if I can remember correctly. That brings me to older (memory failure). Need to apply for Medicare soon. Fatter? Yes but not as fat as two years ago just more than November. Slower? Most likely! But if last year is an indicator, I will be back up to speed in a month of riding and lighter too, but older yet.

To be honest, I am a little intimidated by the thought of doing the first ride to work and back (22 miles). Not to mention the April ride!

Ahhh...figured this one out several years ago.

I begin the season in March with a fat tired bike ( to match the fat tired rider) this would be my drop Bar MTB. Being winded at the end for the ride, I blame it on the extra rolling resistance, heavy frame, etc. Once the salt and debris is cleared from the roads later in the month, I'll take out a skinny tire bike and whahoooooo.... it's so fast (the bike, not me)

This system of deception has fooled me every time and I pleased, being the fool that I am.

Good to hear your out and about, today is my first ride since early January.

You can go from old and fat and slow to old and slimmer (by a lot) and a little faster in just two months. I just did it, lost about 25 pounds or more, got a lot stronger, walk more erect and, believe it or not, got hit on the other day. The ladies seeing eye dog liked me also!-)

I'm just posting here to troll a bit. I'm older than I was. I'm fatter than I was last summer but thinner than I was around the holidays. I'm trying to work off my slowness.

So far this year I've ridden about 580 miles. Today is the first day over 50 in the New York City area. I've got about 10 inches of snow outside my window, so until it finishes melting, I'll probably be on a bike with fenders.
Last night on the MUP, I wen through a lake complete with little icebergs of snow. My shoes and jeans got wet, but it could have been worse --- frozen!

I plan to race on the track for my second consecutive season. Last year, I got credit for just showing up (upgraded from Track Cat 5 to Track Cat 4 for entering ten races), even though I lost every single race. I'm happy enough with my record, but I'd like to do better this year. I'm four pounds lighter than I was this time last year (I'm now about 174 lbs), but I feel a lot fatter. I've been riding at least once a week, though not vigorously at all. The weather has made me not want to pedal hard. I better get cracking now. I'm even thinking maybe I should join a gym so I can do some stretching and weight lifting. I'm 54 years old, for what it's worth.

I understand intervals are a good way to get in shape, and I can do some on my commute. The question is, will I?

I'm impressed with those who are willing to commute through extreme weather. Winter decided to leave California alone this year. I've been commuting by bike practically every day. Most days I leave the house in shorts and a short-sleeve shirt--even throughout January and February. More than that and I'm a sweaty mess when I get into the office. Yesterday's weekend ride as downright hot!



I love having that extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day. I wish we'd do away with daylight savings time altogether.

Well its official, the first ride to work in 2015 is in the bag. The snow melt was frozen jutties into the road this morning as it was 28F. And I am still old fat and slow.

But it was a great ride!
