89 Centurion Dave Scott

I recently acquired this 89 Centurion Dave Scott in exchange for some cash and a 77 Centurion Pro Tour. The gentleman had bought a 77 pro tour brand new in 77 in the same color. I am a huge fan of Centurion as my first road bike was a 70s Super LeMans. He brought the Dave Scott to sweeten the deal, and said his son wasn't using it any longer. He was going to CL it, but said he would rather see a Centurion fan have it. I just rode roughly 20 miles on it this morning and I have to say, it's pretty amazing. Super fast and responsive! The geometry is so much different than the 77 touring bike, and I feel the Dave Scott is a little more taxing to ride, but it takes off in a hurry This bike has 600 grouping with 105 indexing DT shifters. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Bikes: Too many to list, all titanium or steel.

I've got the same bike in that size. I love mine and ride it whenever I go to my parents (where it is stored since I have too many bikes at home). I've got a newer smoke painted ironman frame in the shed that I'm thinking about building up soon.
Enjoy it!

Bikes: A bunch of old bikes and a few new ones

The bike is in great shape, it has a fine steel tubing set, good quality parts, and the QR skewer is on the non-drive side, how cool is that, .

It is an '86 model, and yes, moving from a Pro Tour to an Ironman will have a learning curve, as you have to pay attention to that handling. Someone likely swapped in the indexed 105 shifters because many of the R shifters on the '85 and '86 models broke. That was pretty much fixed by 1986, though. Many of the '86 models had DiaCompe spring-loaded brake levers with the "leader" cable running out of the lever body. Many also had coppery-colored rims, and all of them had the sloping fork crown. I've always considered the '85 in the old font and the '86 in the new font to be the "elegant" Ironmen, kicking arse politely.

Good score. I highly recommend getting those wheels trued and tensioned, and really find out how that thing handles.

I would hope the skewer is on both sides with the release on the NDS! Kinda hard to hold the wheel in place if the skewer is on one side only!

Hi Jon - I am happy to have passed that bike along to someone who will use it and enjoy it! Also happy to have picked up the Pro-Tour you were offering; I've been looking for one from that year and size for ever. They just do not seem to be out there in any sort of numbers. I'm doing a bit of cleaning and polishing on the Pro-Tour, and am really happy with it.
It is great that you are putting the Ironman to use already; it was just gathering dust in my garage after my son grew 4" in the last 5 months, and I am more of a touring bike kind of guy... Love the Centurions, though!

Bikes: Too many to list

NEat bike -- it may be seasonal, but i have seen a few of these come out of the woodwork in the last 3 or 4 weeks (including one i brought home myself - a red one much like yours)

Dave Scott and Scott Tinley were the guys' i looked up to in sport growing up so i always wanted one then --- Back then i loved the loud color schemes but now, i am just fine with red.
I've had a chance to spoil myself in the years since with several examples of truly high end machinery --- (ITalian steel, Litespeed Ti bikes, and some carbon bikes) -- so the weight of the Centurion shocked me at first , but i am looking forward to taking it on a 50 miler soon

---- Also, the detailing impresses me on them -- a real shimano headset for instance, when many manufacturers in that price range would have slipped in a Tange, and real Nitto bars and stem are all good stuff
