A really nice day. I got in an 18 (point something) mile ride in today. I rode over to the bike co-op and peeked in the windows (they weren't open yet). Puts me at slightly of 40 mile MTD.

4/1: 15 miles (crazy headwind cut my average speed to 11.5 mph)
4/3: 12 miles (little wind, I was riding constant 14-16mph - hills still slow me down though.)
4/4 - Hour on the trainer
4/5: 30 miles EASTER SUNRISE RIDE, great ride, virtually no traffic and almost perfect weather, thinking about making it a tradition.
4/7: 15 miles (great ride, averaged 16mph despite having to fight a 15 mph cross wind)
4/12: 33 miles. On track for 50 miles today but had to cut it short to pick up my daughter from my cousin's horse farm. Otherwise a perfect ride, sunny high of 65 and manageable winds. Tomorrow is supposed to be similar, I'm tempted to bike commute (50 miles r/t) but we'll see how I feel or better yet how early in the morning I wake up lol.
MTD: 105 miles (They sure add up quick, aiming for 200 just because)
Goal: 100 miles & 50-Miler (recreational)

New Personal Best Distance and Duration!!
What a weekend!! Saturday was beautiful but had yardwork to do. I ended up spending the day aerating the lawn, then thatching it and cleaning up outside. I was dead.
Sunday went from the mid to upper 40's to a high, I think, of 65 F. I grabbed 3 water bottles with all sorts of different electrolyte (Camelbak, Scratch and Hammer Heed) to try. I was determined to ride the Bethpage Bikeway from the north most end starting in Woodbury/Plainview at Manetto Hill Rd and Woodbury Rd riding all the way to Merrick Rd in Massapequa and then pick up the Jones Beach bike way at Cedar Creek Park down the road to Jones Beach. Total distance is over 25 miles. Having never been on this path, I was excited. My hill work has been lousy so I looked forward to seeing what this route had to offer. For a very tightly built suburban landscape that has become Log Island's Nassau county, this was a pleasant surprise. The path meanders through a stretch of untouched woodland area then along the famous Bethpage State Park and Golf Course (US Open hosted there a few times) and past several small lakes and streams. It was quiet and beautiful with occasional passing of civilization of roads ad highway bridges. the path really block and breeze or wind. About 1/3 ofg the way down I chose the wrong path and went to turn around. I unclipped and placed my foot down and it got twisted. I had to decide to turn back or keep going. I am not sure if it was the adrenaline or what but it didn't hurt enough to stop me so I continued south.
When I cam out onto Merrick Road, I had to follow it a mile or so West to Cedar Creek Park where the Jones Beach Bikeway starts. This follows the Wantaugh State Parkway all the way to Jones Beach. The bike path then turns East for about 3 miles to a police station/ rest stop. This path is largely open to as far as the eye can see with the waterway view-able that lies between L.I. and Jones Beach. Here you are open to the wind. It wasn't blowing much but it still added challenge. I would guess it was 5-8 mph but that was just a guess. Once in a while I would pull up close to a group or rider ahead of me to draft them a bit for a short distance. BOY how much does that help!!
On the way back I took a few photos of Jones Beach to show proof how far I got. The beach was pretty packed for a pre season. Officially, the beach doesn't open until late May (weekend before or weekend of Memorial Day). Being at sea level, the entire ride back was technically up hill with a few nice climbs (for Long Island). Granted that is only 170-200 ft to the highest point.
I ended the day riding for 4 hours 51 minutes with about 20 minutes of break time at Jones Beach between photo ops and bathroom break. Otherwise, I rode continuously. It was a measly 883 ft altitude gain(My hat is off to all of you who do so much more). AS little as it was it killed me. Got to spend more time on this path and go to the north shore where there are more hills.
I also found out that Cliff bars are pretty good, Honey Zinger waffles are better but both went down fine. Scratch electrolyte was good as was my Camelbak electrolyte but I wasn't sure I could do too much of the Hammer Heed. Had a bit of a milky taste. Even with lots of Ice in the Camelbak Chiller bottles, it was lukewarm to cool. I got the Mandarine Orange and it had a bit of a milky- creamsicle tates. Not terrible but not great either. I could deal with it but I think I like the Scratch better. I know you guys are going to kill me on this but I ended up drinking 21oz. x 2 and only some of the Heed (25 oz ). For nearly 5 hours of riding, it was not enough but luckily it was cool enough and I didn't sweat too much. I wore a heavier short sleeve jersey with a windbreaker and a pair of Sugoi knickers. Temp-wise, I was fine and wasn't looking to push super hard but more so looking to complete the run. The challenge for this route is that there aren't ny place to stop along the route unless you break out to hit a convenience store. I did see a CVS and of course when you pass Sunrise highway and Merrick Rd, there are places to stop. From there to the Jones is again nothing but that is only 4 miles and at Jones they have food and facillities. 3 miles further down the road at the end is the Tobay Beach/ Police/ Rest stop at the end.
Definitely looking forward to getting faster and stronger on this run and there is a hill or two that I could practice repeatably nearby. Weight-wise, I have been hovering at 203, (+/- lb) for a while. Might need to take more drastic measures. Hills would be much easier if I could get down to 188 or below. Hitting 188 would bring me into my normal range.
Goal: 350 miles (including trainer = T)
4/1 -- 20.1 T miles
4/2 -- 21.1 T miles
4/6 -- 20.6 T miles
4/7 -- 20.4 T miles
4/8 -- 21.4 T miles
4/9 -- 20.7 T miles
4/12 -- 51.4 miles (Personal Record distance and duration: 4:51)
MTD: 175.7 miles (51.4 outdoors)

4/11 - 68.3 miles, 2859 feet. Crossed into WI for some hill action. Strava estimated <70 watts for the last ten miles. Nuh uh. My kingdom for a powermeter.
172.5/500 miles, 8250 feet.
A little off pace, lost most of a week to cold and rain and snow. Need 210 miles more than Minnesota Ironman, got to get in gear.

The winds were pretty bad. Was planning to go out Sunday, but the 44mph gusts (once you're out in the cornfields around here the gusts might as well be continuous) kept me home. I've done that already this year and it shouldn't hurt so much going 11mph downhill.

I have this regular 25 mile loop with a challenging enough 2300ish ft elevation gain (climbing out of a river valley) that I've done many times before and today was the first time I've experienced headwind coming and going, and I hated it. Still miraculously managed 14.3 mph average rolling speed, which on an upright "city" bike is pretty damn good. I can only imagine how fast I'm going to be when I finally get myself a sporty road bike.

Went too far, too fast, in too much heat. Somewhere around 23 miles without a speck of shade, and completely overheated. I got off the bike almost 8 hours ago, and have just now recovered. I need to dial it back a notch or three.

Another trainer morning. A little saddle sore from Sunday's ride but manageable. 20.4 T miles to add. Boy how hard it is to get going again after a hard day. Sunday really zapped me.
Goal: 350 miles (including trainer = T)
4/1 -- 20.1 T miles
4/2 -- 21.1 T miles
4/6 -- 20.6 T miles
4/7 -- 20.4 T miles

So far between my Roadie, Hybrid, and MTB I am at 40.1 miles. I am setting a goal of 150 miles.
I think it is doable with all of this nice weather presenting itself in the future!

No goal per se ... just finally glad the weather is getting better.
14.5 miles today ... averaged 14 mph. Not bad after the winter layoff.

4/1: 15 miles
4/3: 12 miles
4/4 - Hour on the trainer
4/5: 30 miles
4/7: 15 miles
4/12: 33 miles
4/13: 25 miles.
4/14: 20 miles. I was clocked doing 35 MPH in a 25mph zone coming down a hill into town (an obvious speed trap for motorists) today. I honestly didn't think radar detectors picked up bicycle speeds, as those speed enforcement trailers never seemed to pick up my slow speed as I pedaled by them. The LEO had a sense of humor as he let me off with a warning and told me I wasn't in the Tour de France and to slow down for my own safety.
