Had a funny experience on the bike today - road 50 miles down to seal beach and back and the headwind going down was intense! I caught up to and passed a few people... on the presumption that the actual speedy folks get out early in the morning to avoid the heat. I caught up to one young gent on a Felt TT bike, full aero helmet, the works. I passed him, and when the wind kicked up again and I slowed, he passed me back, so I followed him for a little bit and then he slowed down and I passed him. Kind of nice to have a little motivation on an otherwise hot dull day. I stopped at the turn around point at seal beach to eat a bar and fill my bottles, he basically circled and headed right back out. He must have stopped somewhere because I eventually caught up to him again and taking full advantage of the tail wind I blew by the guy on his full TT bike with full TT helmet and all that jazz. He was probably recovering from an Ironman yesterday or something.
So the back of his sleeveless jersey, at the bottom of the middle pocket, had a comment about Rule #27 and I was hoping ALL day that it had something to do with "no bike race shall ever be preceded by a swim nor followed by a run" or maybe the one about NO SLEEVELESS JERSEYS... but it was something about socks and goldilocks. I was very disappointed.

I use multiple kits from different brands, the bibs are the only ones that have a feather zone in the tan line. The sleeve jerseys are all about the same length.

Successful 11 day tour of Montana in the books. It only hailed on me three times, all on day 2. Only disappointments were not getting to ride unpaved Gibbons Pass because of heavy rain the night before (took the paved highways, which added 4 miles and extra climbing) and not seeing any "exotic" quadrupeds. Hope to have photos on Flikr by the end of the week.

Non omnino gravis
Today should probably have been a rest day, but next thing I knew I was on the bike again. Did manage to snatch back two KOMs I had lost during the last few weeks-- including one where according to Strava, I was only going at ~65% intensity, so at least I know I have gas in the tank if I have to go after it again later.

KOM-hunting is easy. The "hardcore" guys soft-pedal everywhere, then hammer the segments for the best time. I can't make myself do it. I ride at my pace, and hope I have enough gusto to do the segment. Which is probably why I don't have a whole box full of KOMs.
Did another re-ride this morning, repeating the course of exactly one year ago:

Actually, what those guys really do is paceline to get the KOM... which is fine, no skin off my nose. There should be a minimum length and/or elevation change to get assigned an actual "King" though, some segments are ludicrous. Most of the segments in my area have 1000+ riders on them so if I'm in the top 25% I'm pretty satisfied. KOM just isn't going to happen most of the time.

Not yet. I remember PJ saying he'd be gone this weekend - needed someone else to instigate GMR. ****
