Yep, those crystal light packs saved me from pop. Breaking myself from pop which started in the summer was a slow process as I love caffeine, so I just drink lots of water/crystal light and tons of coffee now. I've still only lost 20lbs, but I'm enjoying myself on my bike tremendously

Yeah, I sure do.....

I have enough extra skin to do a credible "Flying Squirrel" imitation.

Awesome jobs guys. I started Commuting more faithfully Back in July 2007. I got sick of the price for gas. I was about 230lbs the Heaviest I have ever been. Even some of my karate students were saying that I was getting bigger and not in a good way. By November I was around 215lbs I Just weighed in Fully clothed not too long ago and was around 217 But I am around 210 atm. Now If only I could get down to 190 that is my ideal fighting weight.

Depends. After my first 150 lost, I had it everywhere. Now, approaching the 250 lost, it's still definitely there, but not as flabby. The first 150 was lost in the matter of 6 months, the second 100 I've taken my sweet time with - which I think is the key.

When I'm done I expect to be a excess skin mess, surely, but it's worth it. It gets better over time, definitely.

I previously lost 70 lb. (240 to 170) in 6 months on the South Beach Diet (back in 2005). I'm 6'-2". Here are my before and afters:

Unfortunately, I gained most of the weight back. But I restarted South Beach at the end of July and although it's been interrupted a few times, the weight loss is starting to kick in.

Ah. Here's my new "before" picture. This is me in July. I started bicycle commuting in February, but in June and July I had an extended business trip and then went on vacation. When I got back (a few days after this pic) was at 221.

I lost back to 204, but then I had another 2-week business trip with no bicycle and too much restaurant food (although I did run up the stairs to the 7th floor in the hotel every day). As of my Saturday morning weigh-in, I'm at 203, which is a lot better than I feared.

Now you need to make your own emeritus certificate.....

Right now I'm up to about 100kg again winter weight , but now that I have the trainer..... Hopefully I can do better this year, and get there myself.

Look in the collection of Emeriti thread....

Cyclokitty made me a real snazzy one on New Years Eve, when I officially hi emeritus, although I'm always going to be a Clyde, based on height.

So what is the total weight lost now, I know you were at a little over 2 normal sized adult males (okay 1½ American adult males), just wondering what the final numbers are now that you have passed into "normal" category. If you were to get that flying squirrel suit removed, you would probably be about 175, almost skinny whinny category.....

Started out at 581 pounds, and the total weight loss is 382 pounds.

Damn! All of you are inspiring. I've lost 40 of the 50 or so that I'd like to lose. What's ten or fifteen pounds when some of you have lost so much.

That's ten or fifteen more pounds than the average person loses. And it proves you have determination, and, pardon the pun, guts.

My entry in this category:

Me at 400 pounds, looking up information in Chess Personalia. John G. White Collection, Cleveland Public Library, Cleveland, Ohio, October 2005. Photograph by Dr. John Hilbert. I remember that trip - I needed to stop walking and rest midway back to the hotel. The hotel was three blocks from the library. BTW, the 'halo' effect of the lights was an accident - John didn't try to make me appear more saintly than I am.

Me at 250 something, Washington DC, August 2008. Nine days before I was in Pittsburgh, PA. I rode every day in between, for a total of 380 miles. Sorry I don't look more enthusiastic for a fellow who was celebrating the best moment of his life, but I was tired. You can tell from how I'm grabbing the milepost marker on the C & O Canal that I really wanted this success.
