Weight Loss
250lbs Christmas 2010
230 lbs June 1, 2011
196 lbs Aug. 1, 2011
Riding 2-4 hours every other day on BigCreek Greenway in Cumming, Ga. "In the heat"
(on a 34+lb Motiv Rockpoint full suspension mtn bike)
Working out on non riding days and swimming laps several times a week.
And occasionally all 3 on some days.
I'll try and get some pics up in a few days.
Several people in great shape told me its 70% diet and 30% excercise...Including a competitive female bodybuilder. Below is a great article on food !

I guess she should know but I would say in my life it is 50/50 or 70% exercise and 30% diet. I can have a good food day and poor exercise day and I will be up the next day. Poor food and good exercise and be down or even. SO? YMMV!

I don't have much to offer yet, but I'm on the road to getting my youth back.
Bought a bicycle May 20th, 2011 and logged 700+ miles in a little over two months....
Now I'm doing the Medifast 1,000 calorie-a-day diet having started August 2nd 2011. I intend to stick to it until I attain a "healthy weight". Then I plan to maintain said 'healthy weight' with my new-found/rediscovered love....bicycle riding:
255 lb's
247 lb's
237 lb's July 8, 2011:
217 lb's August 8, 2011:
Gotta admit, never a better example of how "black is slimming".....

McCallum,
I might have not been clear in what I was saying. I'm talking about getting in shape and losing weight over a period of time , say a month or two, not how much you weigh from one day to the next. For an accurate assesment of your fitness program you should try weighing yourself at the same time on the same day once a week. That will prevent the flucuations from water weight. Several people in excellent shape plus a fitness mag. had the 70 / 30 formula. For a really accurate assesment getr a scale with a body fat monitor. I'm now to the point where my weight is going up slightly but my body fat % is going down by several % points !
Good Luck

Congrats on the weight loss, you're showing impressive results. Like you, I started my journey at 258lbs and have gotten myself down to 198 this morning (Happy Dance!!) At 1st, the weight came off fast but the last 10 lbs were next to impossible to drop; I'm sure my body learned to expect hard rides 5 times a week. Now that I'm under 200, I plan to start running to "mix" it up a little. This said, you will have to come to terms on your food consumption (as I did). You cannot starve your body (been there and done that). My experience has shown that that I would hit that brick wall where I had absolutely no energy. I was confident that I would set myself up for an injury of some sort if I wasn't careful.
Exercise is a great tool for weight loss, but it all starts with what we put in our mouths. This is what needs to be mastered if the weight is going to stay off. I found out there are lots of thoughts and opinions out there on this subject and like me you’ll have to sort those out for yourself. This said though, I can assure you 1,000 calories a day is NOT GOOD for you. Bump your caloric intake up to 2,000 a day, ride your bike 20 miles a day 4 to 5 day and the weight will come off. Oh and don’t forget to have one cheat meal aweek!!

I just wandered in here to see what this forum was about and found this thread. I am amazed at some of the results and think it is a testament to those with drive and determination to make ultra positive changes in their lives. Awesome!

I'll play along. First photo was taken Oct 2010 when I was 265 lbs (6' 1.5"). I just happened to take the other photo today messing around trying to get a snapshot for my facebook profile. I am down to 204 as of this morning.
I never really realized how big I had gotten, but when you see how chubby my face was, its very apparent I needed to do something. I looked like I did until March or April when my weight loss started being noticeable, but I actually got serious about eating better and exercising more regularly in February (I turned 29 and promised myself I would not let myself reach 30 looking like I did).
I set an initial goal of 230 lbs because that was the weight that would unofficially get me out of the obese category per a basic BMI calculator. Honestly, I thought I might be lucky to reach that weight after 60 months. It happened much quicker. I kept wondering when I would hit a wall and plateau out. It has slowed significantly. Up until a few days ago, I couldn't get below 207 and had been there for about 2 weeks. I am happy to see another 3 lbs gone and hope to continue losing weight. I am really anxious to get back under 200 lbs which I haven't been since the summer before and right at the beginning of my freshman year of college (11 years ago).
My ultimate goal I set was 190 lbs which would bring my BMI to under 25 which is in the normal range. A realistic expectation is that it will take a few months to reach that number and I am fine with that because I want to see where I end up at my current level of exercise and diet. The key for me is to do something I can sustain for the rest of my life. I feel like what I am doing is something that can been sustained. I don't have to take any crazy pills or eat any crazy foods. I just eat less, cut out the junk, and keep going to the gym, riding my bike, and walking the dog (except tonight since I had to mow...hope the dog isn't mad...)

Kitty from your pictures, I'm not sure you want to lose another 25-30. You're looking pretty good already, the ab ridge is visible, your leg muscles are starting to pop, you have ankles and writs again, and (hopefully not going too far) your chest now sticks forward further then anything else. If you lost another 25-30 I'd be afraid you would start looking like one of those models that really needs a sandwich. Of course only you know your body, and if you have more to lose, then good luck.
Excellent job though.
Excellent job though.
