Only 10k for my dream bike?

Not enough for a fully decked out Pinarello Dogma. As Gus (the second most famous groundhog in PA) would say: "keep on scratching"

If the whole $10k was truly not needed in my budget, I'd spend $1-2k on something nice and donate the rest to Habitat for Humanity.

I would not play the lottery and if I had 10K to blow, it wouldn't be on a bike. But that is not what the thread is about. Play along, have fun, that's what the internet is for. What would your $10K dream bike look like?

Likely wouldn't buy a new bike. But it would allow me to ship one of mine to DC while I take a nice long riding-and-hockey vacation there.

10K, that would get squirreled into the retirement account instantly.

And I doubt that it would pay for that Wright Van Cleve I've been lusting after.

But if I had to spend it, I'd probably buy an underseat rack for the Bacchetta, take it in to my LBS for a major tuneup, get some panniers, charge up the MasterCard and do a cross country tour.

And if I had money left over when I got to the other side, I'd go further.

That is like asking which is better, Ford, Chevy, or Dodge. Opinions abound, I vote for Campy!

Priced things out, and I'd still have a healthy amount left from $10k with my dream rando bike. The rest is going toward a Motobecane Immortal Ice, swap out the drops for a carbon TT wing/aero with 10spd D-A shifters on the aeros and invert carbon TT levers on the horns. Ksyrium SL wheelset and an SMP saddle. Rando is fun, but sometimes I just wanna go fast. Anything left over is going towards Assos FI.13 S5 clothing.

PUGSLEY!

It's one of those bikes I really, really want- but can never justify the cost vs. how much I'd use it.

That'd leave plenty of money to outfit myself for an entry in the Arrowhead 135.

And still a couple grand left over to jump on the first southbound plane out of Duluth right after the race to someplace warm where I can thaw out and consume adult beverages served in pineapples with little umbrellas in them.

It would have to be the Merckx EMX 5 with DA 7900. Sweet Bike. I'd also condsider the EMX 3 with 7900. If I could split it up between 2 bikes I'd find 2 NOS MXLeaders or Corsa Extras and 7900.

If it's for me only, I would buy a decent mountain bike (3000) a great road bike (5000) and spend the remainder on cycling clothes, helmet, tires, Garmin, carbon fiber water bottle cages, all the stuff I don't buy now.

If I can share, I would buy 4 new bikes (one for each member of our family).

$10k huh? I like to do all sorts of riding, so I'd need to spread the love between 3 bikes: the MTB, the Commuter, the Racer.

the MTB:
Gary Fisher HiFi Deluxe Full Suspension 29er - $2620

the Commuter (love my Soho for the $$$, but this bike is a beauty):
Trek Portland - $1699
https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes...land/portland/

the Racer:
Specialized Tarmac Pro SL Dura Ace - $5000
https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...enuItemId=9256

Yeah, that should do it...and a couple hundred left over for toys....

Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

I'd need to research this a lot: I'd get custon touring wheels built by either Harris or Peter White and have a frame built around them. Bob Jackson? Atlantis?

However, a custom-built Bike Friday is very, very tempting.

Custom 29er MTB Ti frame for loooong hauls.

And the rest of the 10k after I bought the bike would be used to finance a run at the Great Divide Race!

After that I could die as a happy man.

I'd probably die *during*, but I'd still fall into the "happy" category.

As I am already more than happy with my current ride, not to mention the 2010 Sirrus Expert that I have on order, I would buy my wife this 2010 Specialized Ruby Expert for 3000.00 msrp,

and that would "allow" me to use the balance for what I really want, which is a Canon 500mm f/4L IS USM Super Telephoto Lens $6400.00

I have lusted for this lens for sooooooooo long. I currently shoot with a Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L IS USM. It's a great lens but with what I do, I always need more reach.

The balance should give is enough for a nice weekend getaway in my wife's favorite seacoast town of Ogunquit, ME along with a nice lobster dinner at our favorite seafood restaurant there.

Sounds like a win win situation to me. C'mon Powerball!
