I haven't signed up for 500, but I'm on track anyway. I hit 276 with today's commute. My high mileage month so far is 378. I'll be happy with a 400 this month, but who knows, I might get 500. Maybe......

Ugh, I am falling behind. I missed a few days and now I have only 233 miles for the month. All is not lost, however. I am still shooting for 500.

You can make it! Don't worry too much about missing a few days. At this point, it can be challenging to catch-up. However, by summer, you will be able to add extra miles as needed.

Going to be close for me too. I'm at 293mi but there is only 1 more weekend in the month. With good weather I might make it.

Not safe for work
Up to 122 miles. On a positive note, it's the best month of cycling this year. Woo me!

316 thru yesterday. Should be able to hit 500 early next week. Previous monthly high was 383, I should surpass that in the next 3 or 4 days.

Friday: 53 miles
Saturday: 20 miles (rollers)
Sunday: 42 miles
We should be having some good weather in the coming days so if I can get home promptly from work and ride I should be able get a few 25-30 mile rides in between now and the weekend.
I must say I am really enjoying this thread and finding it far more motivating than I had imagined. Thank you!

336 to date but the but there's only one weekend left and so far they are calling for rain :-/
On an unrelated note Performance has a Jersey for 14.99 as the deal of the day. I used the discount code card10 and got it delivered for under $20.
This forum needs a hot deals section :-)

1849 miles for the year as of this morning's commute. I should be around 1925 by the weekend, and I'm doing a 200k on Saturday with a friend. My commuting the following week will put me over the 2100 mark by the end of April, keeping my 500 mi/mo average for the year.

Genetics have failed me
March I failed to achieve the 500 mile mark with ~420 miles.
April I'm on my way to making it. Have 450 right now, will add another 30 today with the Tuesday night races and should crack tomorrow with the Wed. night group ride.
Hopefully I can keep the streak going until October.
Best way to gain mileage for me is to commute home from work with a nice 28 mile ride including the beautiful Lake Shore Path

After a grueling 25 miles on the rollers last night I am at 320 miles! It's going to be very close. I have to be to 500 by April 27th... I still think it can happen as long as the weather holds out.

I put some pretty heavy goals out there for myself this season:
6000 miles total
4000kms in randonneuring events
A Super-Randonneur series; which is a 200, 300, 400 and 600km event in the same year
It's the pitfall of being in a very active long distance club... it's easy to get sucked into doing crazy miles when you've got 2 guys vying for the national distance record and inviting people out to ride with them at all crazy hours of the night in the middle of the week. "What? A 200k starting at midnight on Tuesday, right down the street from my house? I'll let you ask The Girl if I'm allowed to ride that one... I'm not even gonna take the flak for that question!" (The Girl is the voice of sanity when it comes to my riding addiction.)

Yow. The only time I ride at night is when I misjudge the time and get home after dark. While I enjoy the sensation of riding at night, I do not like being in traffic in the dark and not being able to see as well or as far. Once night falls, the only riding I do is on rollers. People have recommended this light and that but I am just not comfortable enough to really ride at night.
I have never done more than 95 miles in a single day (many years ago) so the sort of distances you are talking about are beyond my experience. I cannot imagine. I don' have any specific mileage goals for the season, other than doing as many 500-mile months as I can, but I do want to do a century somewhere along the way.

But it's also the only way I can get to/from work in the winter months. Really short days up here in Seattle during the winter, and when it's overcast (as it is much of the winter months) it amplifies that effect. 8 hours of "official" daylight and sometimes it's just a lighter shade of evening than when it's full-on night time. You either get used to riding in the dark, or you just stick to the trainer/rollers for a few months.
With my commute route, it's not so bad on traffic so that makes it nice. I can chose to take an MUP for 50% of my route to avoid the roads, and the roads I take have a bike lane or 6' paved shoulder for all except 1.5 miles. Even when I do my distance rides and spend all night riding on main highways, there's usually enough of a shoulder that I've rarely felt that I'm endangered.

Ok, I'll jump in here. January I had 672, February 432, March 738 and so far this month 487. YTD 2329 miles. Doing double centuries adds the miles up quickly.

Kneez, riding at night is a completely different animal. You need good lights, especially if you're out of town on dark roads. Potholes and trash on the road sometimes can be hard to spot until the very last moment even with very good lights. If you're doing and event you have never done before and the organizer hasn't put down good route markers, following the route can be a challenge. If you decide to do some night riding, get the best lights you can afford and do some riding on familure roads to get use to them before you do an event.

Riding at night is the only way to cover the long distances that we do with the club.

You're right. I have super bright tail lights and leg bands. I have my tail lights on steady not flashing. I can't remember where I read it, but it was shown that drunks seem it follow and hit flashing lights. It doesn't matter where or when you ride you're at risk, but night riding is a higher risk. There isn't every many doubles I can do that I don't have to ride some at night.

I see a lot cyclists around here riding at night with some very nice lights but they just don't look very prominent compared to the rest of the traffic.
At any rate, I have 341 miles so far this month. I have to do all my riding by the 28th but if the weather holds over the weekend, 500 will be completely doable by then! I'm excited!
