========================================================
503/600 (84%) month, 2454/2500 (98%) year
Went for a 50 mile fall ride. No stops, no breaks. First 6 miles were awesome... in fact a little too awesome. I turned north, and there it was. Nasty cross-wind, confirming my suspicion that I was indeed doing better than I should have been. This was going to wreak havoc with my route... as 20 miles of this route would be directly into the headwind at one point. I decided to power on, and pretty soon I turned into the wind. It was agonizing. Around mile 25 I started thinking of giving up and heading home, which would make the trip 35 miles. Words just can't describe how uncomfortable an 18mph headwind in near-freezing temperatures feels.
I got used to it, and just went on. I kept telling myself that once I turned back east, the last 10 miles with the wind at my back would be my reward. And thus, it was!
New tires, Marathon Plus's. They seemed extremely robust. Didn't really feel slower with them. I miraculously remembered to reprogram my Garmin's wheel size before I left, since the tires are now smaller than my old ones (1.75" vs 2.0"). Felt more confident riding through the fallen autumn foliage without worrying about riding over a hidden twig.
First ride with my new FuelBox. I'm not a triathlete obviously, so maybe it's odd that I now have a triathlete bag on my bike. But it worked awesomely. I was worried that it would take up too much of my top-tube length and I would accidentally crush it getting on and off the bike. Just back in may my, erm, girth, would take up the entire length of the bike and hit the handlebars. I guess I never noticed when this stopped happening, because now this 5-inch long bag sits on the top tube, and I don't hit it at all. Cool! I fit 2 string cheeses, 2 granola bars, and 2 clif shot bloks in it, though I only needed one of each for this trip. Still had extra room left over too if I needed to put anything else in it. I'm glad it worked out!
My new trunk bag hasn't arrived yet. It's sitting at the post office 1 mile down the road, grrr. I really want it so I can remove the panniers when I don't need to carry much, and be more aerodynamic. It certainly would have helped today!

528/600 (88%) month, 2479/2500 (99%) year
It was such a beautiful day out I decided to do a short recovery ride. As soon as I hit a minor hill, my legs disappeared. Hit a new monthly record of 528, for my 2nd 500 mile month ever. Also hit a new 30 day record of 678 miles. Next few days will be very rainy so I'm not sure when I will get to ride again. We'll see. Just 21 miles away from my goal now. I have no doubt I'll make it, and exceed it by quite a bit.

I'm in since I got a jumpstart....
10/1 - 100 (1st century)
10/9 - 27 (took a week off, guilty)
10/12 - 18 ( a tough one though, https://connect.garmin.com/activity/121073117)
10/14 - 22 (https://connect.garmin.com/activity/121536574)
10/15 - 59 (broke bike 500 feet before end, chain in the wheel. https://connect.garmin.com/activity/121875592)
10/19 - 17 (personal climb goal, didn't make it.....https://connect.garmin.com/activity/122903336)
10/20 - 6
10/22 - 40 (https://connect.garmin.com/activity/123548648) going to make the 300 but having knee pain for first time, after getting fitted of all things. Will have to call him monday to make adjustments.
total = 289
Beanz got me thinking about elevation, went back through the Garmin and found that I have done 12,300 feet of climbing since Oct 1st. Not far off that mountain goat Beanz, probably why my leg is hurting, to much of a new thing (climbing).

299.84 I can roll to the end of the driveway and fall in. This is my first 300 mile month since returning to the bike in August. Did it all in 13 rides. I am darn proud to have made this goal in such a short time back on the bike. I look forward to seeing what icing I can put on this cake over the next week.

568/600 (95%) month, 2519/2500 (101%) year
Rainy day, nothing much to note... oh wait what was that?
2519/2500 (101%) year
Beat my year goal. Going to the bike shop the minute I get out of work and talking with them about ordering my road bike for next year!
I'm extremely pleased with my new trunk bag. At first I was a little scared because it's smaller than I expected, but I'm just used to having tons of spare space in my panniers. I spent all last night trying out various kit configurations. I was actually able to store my entire kit in the bag with no problems.
One half of the bag contains my standard emergency kit (2 tubes, levers, tool, wrench, chain, CO2 inflator + 2 carts, 2 spokes, patches, paper towels, band aids, antibiotic).
For commuting the 2nd half of the bag contains my lunch and my cable lock. I can then fit the U-lock on top with my keys inbetween, as well as a shirt and socks on top. If I expand the expanding top, I can probably fit a pair of shorts in there as well.
For long trips (50+ miles), the 2nd half of the bag contains my cable lock and a spare tire (26x2.0 folding beat fits fine), with room for 2 bottles of water.
The only thing I've got to get used to is packing things tighter than before. Not entirely a bad thing to get used to, really. It's got expandable pannier bags as well, if I ever need to carry more on short notice. The primary reason I bought a trunk bag was to replace the panniers however. They weren't very good panniers; they got the job done but ultimately it was impossible to rain-proof them, and they flopped around too much because there was no way to secure the bottoms to the rack. The new trunk bag is waterproof with the rain cover, and more importantly... less wind resistance. Biked to work a full 2mph faster than usual on my latest route this morning. That was an awesome feeling. I spent the majority of the commute in the big chainring, something that never happens. Makes me wonder how much faster the road bike will be, since it'll put me into an inherently more aerodynamic position.

Going to try for 400 but don't think I have enough time given family plans over the weekend. But I made the 300.

Don't feel bad, I have 11 to go with a bum knee (actually leg). Trying to take a week off to make it feel better, so Saturday I may accomplish this goal. I might just drive to top of a local mountain and coast down to get my 11 miles in.

if the weather holds well, i have three decent rides to do before the end of the month, that should bring me close to 300.

If you are riding down a mountain, you must first have ridden up the mountain. It is forbidden to employ powered transportation simply for the cheap thrill of descending. The only exception to this is if you are doing intervals on Alpe d’Huez or the Plan de Corones and you park your car up top before doing 20 repeats of the climb.

I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe, I can make 400. Supposed to rain tomorrow but I'll have Sat., Sun., and Mon. to get in the 75+ miles I need. Might be possible.
