Not really post worthy but shhh

So as a person who started riding a few months ago , the longest i have spent on the bike in one sitting is about 10km. Normaly i do a few rides but with breaks in between.

Well today i rode 37km( approx it was like 37.something) in one sitting, it may not be fast it may ... hell it wasnt pretty but i did it

average speed was between 15--19kms and hour that is like 8--11miles an hour I think .
My ass hurts, my legs where shaky and i want to go do it again

I know not overly post worthy compared to some people , hell some of the ...err senior citizens are most likely laughing that they can walk faster than that but I am happy with it .

Anyway thanks for reading have fun

The first "workout" I did was 8 minutes of walking on a treadmill.I didn't even ride a bike until I'd been at it for a year so 37 km seems pretty good for someone that's only been at it for a few months. Setting a new record is good for the soul but consistency is more important. It's all those 10km rides that allow you to do that 37km ride.

Congratulations! Your speed is about dead on where I was when I did my first 20 or so mile ride. Keep riding!

AND keep posting!

Hmm. Most of the stuff I do isn't post worthy. After all, there are cyclists here who ride harder, ride longer, ride steeper climbs, tour longer distances, and who cover more ground faster. However, I still post, and I don't make apologies for what I do. I suggest you do the same.

And congratulations!

You first need to start some where and now you are hooked. The more you ride, the better you will get used to it. You are on the right track!

My first rides were 5 miles or less at 10-12mph on relatively flat residential streets and I had to rest after each of them. Keep at it an you'll be amazed how quickly you improve.

No one starts out riding a century ride....everyone start out small and works their way up to longer rides. Five or six years ago when I started commuting on a bike the distance from the shop to my home was about 5.5 miles. I rode that distance, twice a day for months before I started riding longer rides. Finally got to where I was riding 25 miles a day in the commute, and longer (50 mile) rides on the weekends. Then I had an accident at work and was off the bike for two years, waiting for my knee to heal. When I got back on, I was right back to 5.5 miles each way.

If you can live with the fact that there will always be

a) somebody faster
b) somebody who can ride further
c) somebody skinnier
d) somebody with a nicer bike than yours
e) somebody who's older than you, fatter than you, and rides a 400# beach cruiser but can still kick your butt up a hill

then you'll be fine. Keep riding and congrats on a fine ride!

You've done something most have never done or never will do. You took that first ride.

Best of luck.

That's all that matters!

Don't compare your achievements with others. We are all different.
What you did was the first steps on the moon. No less of a goal.
Now aim for the stars. One step at a time.

Two years ago I was over 300lbs, and ten miles was out of the
question. Now at 220 there is nothing I can't do. Last July
I did 1600 miles! In two years, I am over 20,000!

I have nothing else to do. There are just not enough hours in
the day.

Keep riding, don't look back!

^ This. Regardless of speed, you took the step. Many never even get to that point. 37k is pretty good!

Thanks guys, and ladys of course

tis Saturday here and i can't go for a ride =( if don't get the house cleaned and the computers up and running i will be in trouble.

@ Neil_B Mate the stuff you ( and others) have done and dealt with to keep ridding is one of the primary reasons i pushed my self to get out on a bike. Blokes like your self who just keep going even when their own body is against them in some cases should be given a medal or something

If I can post some if not all of the crap I post on here why can't you? I mean your post/thread is more worthy than anything I have ever posted here.

Good job, keep it up and try to do a metric century within the year (you're already halfway there).
