I took one month off riding. . . back "hurteded" a little more than usual, but slogged through my normal loop. Did it again yesterday. Felt much better, but for some reason. . a minute slower on the back half. . . weird.

There's a reason I avoid the women's forum. Is it so surprising that the person who comes closest to making me avoid this forum is connected with the reason I avoid the women's forum?

Folks, I think I need to include a disclaimer.... I maintained within 20 pounds of goal weight for a year and a half. As my joint deterioration increased so did my weight, because my activity level dropped. I am now back in uber-Clyde status, although nowhere near 400 pounds. However, as my activity level increases post surgery I'll be headed back down. Doesn't make me a hero, just another person who had a setback.

In other words, I have more in common with the OP than some folks realize.

Still impressive. It's totally understandable to add weight back on if you are basically immobile for a long period of time. I had heart surgery and hernia surgery in the same year, so I know how that goes. Down about 3 months for the heart thing, another 2 months with the hernias and probably add another month to each before I felt back to normal again. It's pretty hard to maintain weight when you can barely walk.

Allen - my advice is to ignore the naysayers. Clydes have a tendency to be "holier than thou" and preach what you should and should not be doing or eating. I'm always amazed how, if they followed their own advice, they still manage to maintain 300+ lbs of weight for years and years. Something doesn't add up.

I must say I'm kind of shocked by the brutality of the comments in this thread. I thought we were the guys who "moved on" and allowed people new starts. Where does all this passive-aggressive BS come from? Dragging up old posts and criticizing? Im sure I could pull up many posts of the 'old timers' on this forum (including me) and show them their hypocrisies.

Bautieri and I were having lunch along the river in Harrisburg and talking....

"Yeah. You want that last onion ring?"

Neil - Im shocked beyond words.... Onion rings!!!

I also recommend the "pro's" in the thread join the Strava Clydes group - we all seem to be into honesty here so lets keep track of the actual RIDING we all do in a week - not the talking about riding. Any volunteers?

I agree magohn. I think that if you think Allen is a waste of time then don't waste your time posting in the thread to begin with. I'm hear to support other Clydes, whether they succeed or not. Anyone here ever try to lose weight just one time and succeed? Probably not many.

Did the people in the stands actually PAY to be there, or is this the Canadian version of community service?

False analogy. Unless you know something about me I and my doctor don't, I'm not a Type II diabetic who .... well, anyone who read the posts before know what happened and how the OP handled being called on it last year.

BTW, the idea that food is "evil" and needs to be avoided is one of those stumbling blocks people determined not to lose weight throw in front of themselves. I never thought food, including onion rings, were evil. And even after the OP told us of consuming a whole pizza, a bottle of soda, and two candy bars, other people with diabetes refused to condemn what he ate, only the amount and his unconcern about checking his sugar level.

BTW, these "naysayers" include people who are Type II. In other words, people who know what's going on.

I don't think he's a waste of time. Does he think he's a waste of time? That's the question.

I am from curling country. One of my best friends was on the Olympic Curling team years ago. And, he is a cyclist!

Curling is a great core workout too.

Canada is, to quote humorist Matt Labash, "the great white waste of time."

Actually, I have a client who has turned into a good friend and she is HOOKED on curling. The more she tells me the more I understand it.....but being from SoCal, we are contractually obligated to take cheap jabs at it at every opportunity!

Where did I state you specifically were a Type 2 diabetic? Why are people adamant in constantly dragging up the OPs posting of eating a candy bar etc from months ago? Certain posts in the thread began in a passive-aggressive tone and remained that way. The guy is asking for help and advice and you respond to him in a way that if that same response was directed against you, you would certainly take offense. As would I.

I don't usually get involved in the 'politics' of the forums but I know hypocrisy when I see it and for obese people to be raking another obese person (diabetic or not) over the coals regarding diet etc, its ironic and dangerous for Allen.

Whether our personal issues are diabetes, heart, knee, back or other, we are all here for the same reason. To lose weight and get healthier. Allen's health needs attention and hes asking for help. So what do we do? We tell him what a terrible guy he was months ago and drag up his past. He wasn't terrible - he was human.

You see my avatar and the join date was 2005? I joined in 2005, quit after a month and then stayed off the bike until 2010. In 2010, I bought another bike and took another crack at it. 4000 miles later I'm still riding 3x a week and have completed numerous 100 mile rides. I'm so happy you guys weren't on my back in 2005. I dont think I would have come back.

Guys - Show some compassion.

I'm respectfully bowing out of the thread now guys. I have vented my thoughts. I really dont want to get involved with a "he said, she said" scenario. Afterall, I already have a wife .

Allen - get out there dude. Make them all eat crow. I know that I would have a real chip on my shoulder if people were un-supportive and condescending to my efforts.

Drop 100lbs in a year because "living well is the best revenge" Ride it like you stole it!
