I'm not ready for stupid $hit yet....failed 12hr MTB race. Chalk that one to heat exhaustion (95-97*) and nutrition or lack there of it. Plus rigid singlespeed for more punishment

Ouch... i love a good hot ride! I have overactive sweat glands (i sweat just thinking about a warm room) so heat doesn't bother me as long as i can stay hydrated... love a good 100 degree day!

However, that was not the case today... 39 degrees, rain and a nice brisk wind! Managed to get 14 miles in today... rode the Farley out to the trails...

I did have my first crash on the Farley today.... came around a corner pretty quickly and hit a couple of rains soaked roots that were ANGLED across the trail.... and down i went! The tricky little buggers can be seen here:

11/2 -- 9 miles between warm up and CX race. Slick rain soaked grass and lots of off camber sections made for a super fun slip-n-slide race.
11/3 -- 27 Commute miles.
11/4 -- 26 Commute miles.
11/5 -- 27 Commute miles.
11/7 -- 4 Failed Commute miles. Large Nail through the tire. Shredded tire. Called for a ride back home and took the bus to work :-(
11/8 -- 8 CX race miles in Reno. Took 5th. Had a beer. Watched the fast kids race afterwards. Went home.

102 miles MTD

Picture from yesterday's beautiful CX race near Reno, NV.

Shooting for 150 between road and trainer.

11/2: 8.2mi(t) - cut short since I had to get to work.
11/4: 8.1mi(t) - cut short again...
11/8: 13.5 - followed with a 5K run for a nice AM brick workout

MTD: 29.8/150 <~~I'd call that "on pace"

Bike Ride Profile | Baseline Road to Ione near Heppner | Times and Records | Strava 10.6 miles ridden on a BKool trainer using the GPS information from the strava route shown for resistance. So 29 miles tracked in Strava so far this month with another five plus ridden Thursday night the 6th of November as we were fitting my bike to me (a proper fit).

I was laid up for just under 7 weeks during prime riding season (late April to mid-June) due to excruciating “low back/right leg pain” which kept me immobilized for 6 solid weeks and rendered my entire right leg and ankle incredibly weak, so I’m under last year’s mileage total at the moment. In October I rode a 125 mile ride and then a week later I rode another 125 mile ride followed by a 121 mile ride “to and from” the Conowingo Dam in Maryland at the end of October (incurring two flats during my nighttime return at 30+ MPH descent speeds – my front tire the first to incur a flat, then several miles later my rear tire incurred a flat). I still have just over 550 miles to go to match last year’s mileage total, so I’ll be riding as many 125 mile rides as weather permits to play catch up.

So far, after 16.5 miles ridden today, I'm at 68 miles ridden, and 3 miles swum (Three one mile swims last week in lieu of riding when the temperature hit the high 80s here in SD) which, I figure is the equivalent of 98 miles total riding (I figure a 1 mile swim = a 10 mile ride). Only 2 off days this month so far without either 10+ mile ride, or a mile swim.

And I'm only 9 pounds from bidding goodbye to Clydesdale status.

Weather permitting my goal is 100 miles per week minimum riding my old Giant Sedona kinda set up for touring. I'm up to 38 miles at one time now with no drama, but I slacked off during the summer months because I like to kayak also. I've been motivated to do more since I dropped another 2" from my waist. I'm getting down to a weight were I actually don't over load the bike so much now.

Stressful day morning at work so I headed down to the locker room at noon, put on the running shoes and burned off some of that tension. Made the rest of the day much better.

I've ridden 300+ miles each of the last 5 months. This month is not looking so good. I guess sometimes, life gets in the way. 250 might be more realistic goal this month. We'll have to see...

40 miles so far this month for me with the last 10.2 miles ridden today inside on a BKool trainer. I love this thing and find it a great tool.
