Last Commute
I became a victim of "Synergies" after my company was bought out in January. I made my last commute in mid February.
I started commuting 11 years ago at age 46, to help maintain my weight after losing 80 pounds. I became a year round commuter for the first 7 years when it was a 10 mile round trip to the plant I worked at. The economy caught up to the plant and it closed down in 2010. I was able to transfer to our R&D center, but it became a 30 mile round trip. Winter commutes became weather dependent. That first year was very mild and I actually made 35 commutes in January and February. The last couple of years were not so kind and I only got one commute in by the end of February when my job was eliminated along with 2/3 of the R&D staff.
Final tallies:
1360 10 mile commutes
360 30 mile commutes
24,400 miles!
I plan to continue to ride for pleasure and the occasional errand. For the rest of you keep on commuting!

Thanks, I now have more time to follow the forums. As my bike list shows I enjoy refurbishing older road bikes, but like all kinds of bikes and biking. I summarized my experience because it shows it is never too late to start commuting and that it became a significant part of my life.
