Kickstands

I'm in the market for a good double leg kickstand but I'm unsure of what to get. The Esge/SKS has always been a good one but it's pricey! ($36.00+) The M-Wave (and other brands) look good and are cheaper but I am unsure if they hold up in the long run. Are any of these brands of kickstands better or worse then the Esge/SKS?

I have an Ultracycle kickstand on my tandem. It cost $29 and does a good job but clearance can be tight since it more of porteur style like a motorcycle center stand and doesn't fold away as compactly as a Pletscher.

Bikes: 2005 Gazelle Golfo, 1935 Raleigh Sport, 1970 Robin Hood sport, 1974 Schwinn Continental, 1984 Ross MTB/porteur, 2013 Flying Piegon path racer, 2014 Gazelle Toer Populair T8

The one I'm using on my Gazelle came from Velo Orange, the Porteur double kickstand, it works well and is sturdy.

I also have a Velo Orange double kickstand. Haven't installed it yet as the current bike it is going on has a kickstand that is completely stuck

I have three Pletscher/ESGE double kickstands, three Mwave and two Public Bike double kickstands currently on bikes, the only concern is that not all attach the same way, the Pletscher plate doesn't have an adapter for shifter cables routed right under the bottom bracket and the Mwave models hang very low to avoid the chain, and on low bottom bracket bikes like my touring Rodriguez, that would pretty darn close to the ground when cornering, if I put it on that bike (the actual kickstand on that bike for me is a Pletscher).

The ESGE and Public models fold up to one side and two of my Mwaves do as well, while the third Mwave doesn't fold at all and the fork of the two legs just goes up one on each side of the rear wheel.... this is the one that hangs really low.

The Pletschers are indeed expensive but side by side they also really feel high quality.

Be aware that the stands do not come with rubber feet and they come uncut, much too long for almost any bike, so you will need a hacksaw and you will need to order rubber shoes if you want to have those, and the only source on Amazon is Niagra and they charge almost as much shipping for those feet as the item costs.

I have a Pletscher double kickstand and it works with my commuter bike. When loading and off-loading my panniers, stability is what I want.

Its excellent quality and well-made for its intended purpose.

there are gear teeth on the pletcher to let the 2 legs move as one from the left side to under the bike, a little grease on them helps

I bought a Crow Cycle double leg kickstand, adjustable with buttons on each leg, for my new bike. So far, so good.

I bought one earlier this year. I didn't care for it. I thought it would be more stable than a single. However, when the kickstand went down, my front wheel was off the ground. Eventually, the wheel would flop to one side or the other and that flopping would sometimes be enough to knock the bike over. It may just be where my bike's center of gravity sits. But I've switched to a Pletscher Zoom kickstand.

I cut it to fit my 700c wheeled bike. So it's not really a sellable item anymore. If you want to give it a try, PM your address to me, I'll gladly give it to you.

I have the Velo Orange Copenhagen dual-leg one, and it is very good. Pretty much indestructible.

I'm sure there are several double kickstands that will work for you, but I have the SunLite Pro-II and I am very happy with it. I paid $25 and it seems to be holding up fine. I had to find a cut-away plate for the top of the kickstand mount because the existing one for this stand was rubbing up against the front derailleur cable. You may or may not have the same issue with this - or any - double kickstand.

I did not research this item before I bought it. It just happened to be the one my LBS had in stock. Others may be lighter or have other features that make them "better," but I do not choose to obsess over the stupid little stick that holds my bike up. 'Know what I mean? Just buy one and you will probably love it. Double kickstands are awesome.

I have the VO one, simply because my LBS said it was the cheapest and the best. I'm not sure why they stock the rest, then. It did mount easily and does work great. Although I'm honestly just as likely to lean my bike against something.
