What have you found on the ground while riding?
#2052
I found another useful tool and looking it up online it looks to be somewhat collectible like the Armstrong Bros crescent wrench I posted earlier. This Craftsman linesman pliers was laying in the road inside the NC Global Transpark our group rides from. I saw it on Saturday and left it but picked it up on our Sunday ride. It was dirty & rusty but after WD40 and wire brush clean up it looks a little better. Unfortunately the branding area looks to have been used as a hammer and shows some dents.

online search Ebay ad states it's from the 50's.

I saw this morning a pocket-knife blade. It looked like it had the butterfly logo of Benchmade. Just a solitary blade though, I scanned the road after and didn't see any pieces of handle/body.
I'll keep an eye out tomorrow as well, pick it up just to look at it closer then throw it away. Don't need sharps on the road.

Yeah benchmade has a great reputation. Hadn't thought of the possibility of them rebuilding a handle around a blade! Will keep an eye out, may even consider crossing the road on my way home tonight. There happens to be a bridle trail next to the road there, so I wouldn't have to salmon in the bike lane

It was there still today, not Benchmade. It's TRUE, at a glance their T logo is somewhat like butterfly-like

Apparently TRUE makes pocket knives with replaceable blades, but this is not that. Odd that the blade would be just out on the side of the road with no handle debris (that I could spot)
It says 18CR13MOV which is apparently a type of steel, and HS231 which must be the knife model

When you see (#'s)CR(#S)MOV,its Chinese steel. The first number pretty much determines how good it is,but they really don't hold a candle to most of the Hitachi,Crucible, and Sandvik steels. Looking at the offerings on that site,I'd just make a cardboard sheath and use it as a box opener.

Lucky dude. Just recently we had a similar incident, but she didn't get out; I really feel sorry for the people trying to help. {apologies for the grim}

Found this small tank of nitrogen
Lying in the ditch next to the road, I spotted this tank. So I stopped, turned around and picked it up to see what it was. It's quite heavy even though it's no taller than knee-high. It was too bulky to take along, so I stood it up next to the white line and left it behind.

Possibly full cylinder of nitrogen
As I rode away, I thought maybe I should call police or the fire department just to let somebody know. By chance, just over the next hill (!) I happened to see a local police car sitting at the side of the road. I told the officer what and where and left it up to him.

Lately, I keep seeing big flange bolts. They look like oil drain plugs, but there's no oil trail, so they must not be.

I found a seized-up 8" crescent wrench a couple weeks ago. One guy in this thread keeps finding them. This one was pretty badly rusted. I saturated it in penetrating oil, but after letting it sit the weekend, it was still seized up solid, so it went into the recycle bin.

Not on the ground, but I've been doing yet another thing on my bike that you can't do in a car; I rode next to a number of dragonflies. It was a little bit magical. 🐉🪰

2 days ago I rode 87 miles. While still in the city stopped at a light, a pickup truck zoomed by and 5 of those yellow bin lids flew out, right in front of me.
Of course I went to pick them up and stack them on the grass. Who knows how long they will sit there.
Then passed up a couple nice wrenches as usual and a hammer with the handle broke in half from falling of a truck. LOL
One ride in June I passed at least 30 busted straps with buckles and a couple rusty pliers.
Last month on the highway, I saw 6 nickels and dimes close together, then a dollar so STOP, with 3 quarters there too. Didn't go back for the dimes. LOL.
