I find the majority of New Yorkers to be pretty nice people but it does likely have a higher percentage of jerks than most places.

In Minnesota about 1 in 100 drivers are jerks (and maybe another 30 are oblivious). This applies outside of cars as well I think. In Florida it's maybe 2 out of 100. In New York it's probably 4 out of 100 (two of whom are cab drivers). It's sad that these so very few have such as huge negative impact on so many.

This can be seen with loud talking as well. I spend a lot of time in one or another café, like two or so hours every morning. Invariably a group of two or three people or one idiot with a cell phone will come in talking really loud. Until they arrived the noise level of the 50 or 80 people will have been fairly low and will return to fairly low after they leave. Or after someone, which is becoming increasingly common, tells them to pipe down. A tiny few making life less pleasant for many.

No fair that Florida gets double-counted, since many here are from NY

They're just mouthier. There's a famous New Yorker cartoon where the guy from New York is saying "F*** you", but in the thought bubble above his head you can see he really means "Have a nice day"; and the guy from LA is saying "Have a nice day", but he really means "F*** you".

I definitely found the 2 jerks in Florida during that one 6 AM ride in Destin back in June. :P
