Black nylon & polyester baggage fading in the sun
My Avenir black polyester tail bag has begun its turn to gray-purple. This has happened to my stuff before, specifically to motorcycle jacket and saddlebags.
Is there a way to prevent this or is it just the nature of the beast? It looks shabby.

There are some companies that make products to slow UV degradation. Nikwax makes one, though I cannot personally speak to it's effectiveness. Apart from that, I think all you can really do is try to keep it out of the sun, whether by removing the bag from your bike when not riding or using a more easily replaceable rain cover to bear the brunt of solar rays.

paint it Opaque , I have used Plastidip on Nylon when the inner coating applied to the fabric in the factory peels off . it sticks.
Carradice heavy cotton duck is long lasting and UV does not make that rot by polymer molecule degradation.
synthetics just do that .
Avenir stuff is a low cost, source, import to just replace..

I haven't done it myself, but supposedly Krylon Fusion paint will make it look almost new again.
