45F, sunny, wet

Cold day today. Seems like finally Bavaria is getting the Winter the way it should be.
20F on my commute to and from work today.

41F and calm. I decided to ride the fixed gear today - in line with the current thread on the topic. It was a brisk and happy ride in.


Yesterday, it was ~30F with a dense cloud-like fog only at my destination, which is about a 150' climb up from the coastal plain to a little wooded plateau. Entering the cloud from beneath was odd. My lights showed zillions of tiny water droplets moving in sync, like a tiny school of fish. Pretty awesome. I raced home ahead of the predicted rains, which did not come. Heh.

Of course they were contributing to a thick fog here this morning. A super fog was blocking the super moon. I did see it last night, but only after it had risen a bit. It's usually more impressive closer to the horizon and I missed that. maybe it will still be decent tonight too.

Otherwise a good ride in this morning. I wore shorts in the 45F temps any my knees and shins were pretty wet from the foggy mist collecting on them.

I have been commuting all year, but it's been awhile since I posted here. Today was noteworthy in that it was the foggiest day I've ever ridden. Vis at most 50 ft, and less in low spots!

I was well lit which is more than I can say about the drivers. About 10% of cars had no lights, and would appear out of the fog like ghosts. A very treacherous situation.

No. Yesterday was gorgeous, and I went to our summer place on Long Island to rake leaves &c. My rain gear is at home in NJ. I got pretty wet riding to the station this morning, wetter still riding from Penn Station to my office. I expect I'll get thoroughly soaked this afternoon. Oh, well! Here's to better planning

Not a bad morning. Very warm for mid November. 40 rising to mid 50's this afternoon. Temps are expected to drop to normal by the weekend. Have to start thinking about putting on the studded tires.

Wet and rainy at 46F this morning. Got my "second shower." Hopefully, it will be less rainy this afternoon. Only drawback is that my clothing usually doesn't fully dry out when it gets soaked. So you do what they do in the Army and put it on anyway.

Crappy. Tuesdays are in the car...30 minute drive out to dads place in the burbs to drop daughter off, then 45 minute commute backtracking to get to work. It's depressing. Back on the bike tomorrow though rain or shine.

About as ready as I'm gonna be. At least the temp is not in the upper 30s F? Would be awsome if I had access to a clothes dryer. Maybe I have to make friends with someone in the laundry facility at the hospital...

I wasn't able to ride today because I work in the Bronx and have an evening rehearsal in Brooklyn. It would take two hours to make the evening trip but only one hour by subway.

The morning was cold and rainy and windy. I walked the dogs before leaving for work. (We have our own dog, and our granddog (daughter's dog) is staying with us.) We got wet.

I did my normal 13-minute walk to the subway and then 5-minute walk from the subway to the office. I got wet.

But I think that the secret for me is not to worry about getting wet, as long as I stay warm. My jacket and hat were dripping profusely when I got on the train, so I stuffed them into my backpack. That way, I could sit next to strangers without annoying them.

I hung my jacket and hat on a stool in my office and pointed a fan at them. They're dry now. I think I'm onto something. If I get seriously cold and wet on the way in, whether by subway or bike, I can change into the spare set of clothes I keep in the office.

If this continues to work when it gets even colder, I may not ever use my rain jacket. The jacket I'm wearing has a breathable (and not waterproof) nylon shell and a lightweight polyester filling that acts like wool, i.e. warm when wet. I feel like I'm rediscovering the tricks that the British developed over hundreds of years.

Discovered a rear flat when I was leaving the building from work last night. Hauled the bike downstairs to change the tire...the tube was almost fused to the tire.Really had to pull hard to separate the two, anyone ever experienced that? Perhaps that was a result of the hot summer??

Yes, but rarely. I get a lot of flats, and it takes a while for that to happen. Some people put talcum powder in the tire, which prevents this to some degree.

Riding to the station this morning, staying fairly close to the right side of the road, a jogger appeared in front of me a short distance ahead. Dressed in black. Black shoes, black sweatsuit. I had enough time to avoid a collision, not enough time to yell. If I'd yelled, it would have been to denigrate the person's intelligence.

Winter is finally arriving here. 31 degrees this morning but it's climbing into the 50's this afternoon. Yesterday's rain left some patches of ice along the way but easy enough to deal with. When I get some time I'll breakout the studded tires. Calling for strong winds, rain/snow Friday thru Saturday. Taking a longer route home. Winding through a neighborhood along the St. Louis River and then a couple miles of gravel back to my regular route. The city did a fair amount of maintenance on the gravel road this summer so it's rideable again.

Just under 40F for my ride in, but a really nice morning. I left in the dark to go to the gym first. The bright moon helped me see pretty well.

One thing I like about cool mornings, 40ish, is riding comfortably in work clothes and arriving fresh. If I'm not in a hurry, which also gives me an excuse to take it easy and just enjoy the ride.

Chilly commute this morning in the 30s, but it's supposed to warm up to the 60s by this afternoon. We have had absolutely beautiful weather lately, but that's also caused the terrible drought and wildfires we are having in the Southeast. Fortunately, the smoke has largely avoided our part of the state, but a change in wind directions could quickly change that. I won't be bike commuting if the heavy smoke blows our way.

A balmy 37F this morning. Almost got nailed on the way home yesterday. It was fairly late and very dark, crossing a busy street with the crosswalk light, and a woman was turning right on red. I remember thinking to myself "I wonder if she see's me" and was inching to the right to bolt out of the way if she didn't. She didn't until the last minute - i.e. she was only looking left. She slammed on the brakes and skidded loudly - I hope she crapped her pants. Not seeing me at night is a real stretch - I have enough lighting to be seen from space. ALWAYS assume they don't pay attention

Been in the 30s every morning for the last couple of weeks, but surprisingly pleasant for this time of year during the rides home at night: upper 50s into the 60s.

On Friday they're forecasting 40 mph winds, and rain turning into 4" of snow. I finished my winter bike rebuild just in time.

Misty, foggy ride home last night..This morning into work started fine then the rain gear slowly went on..then came off..half..1/4.. arrived just in the rain cape (like Batman). But yea, temps are nice and i've had little to no wind over the past few days. That makes a big difference..give me rain over gusty wind any day
